Traded in my sports reporter badge to become a full-time stormchaser ⛈️☔️ I’m here at Bethel Park, where I was slated to cover this BP-Moon game for TribLive HSSN. Needless to say, we won’t be starting at 7. I’ll do my best to provide updates. Thank goodness for this press box:

Finally, hear it straight from the man himself — McKeesport’s Kemon Spell says he is no longer 100% committed to Penn State, and his recruitment is up in the air right now. Spell says he has upcoming visits planned to Georgia and Notre Dame. Where will the superstar RB land? 🔮

🤯 UNBELIEVABLE!!! 🤯 Derry junior Mason Horwat shocks the Giant Center crowd with a 6-4 victory in the 172-lb. quarterfinals over defending state champ and Ohio State recruit Nick Singer of Faith Christian, the No. 3-ranked wrestler in the nation at the weight class. Madness:

Oh. My. Goodness. Are you kidding me? “Sky High” Makhai Valentine with one of the greatest game-winning shots you’ll ever see. Takes it the length of the court in just six seconds and buries a cold-blooded 3-pointer at the buzzer for a 56-54 win. Was there ever any doubt?

As a freshman, it was clear Bentworth’s Sydney Gonglik was the “Next Big Thing” in WPIAL softball. Now a junior and an LSU Softball recruit, “Syd the Kid” led the Bearcats to their first WPIAL title with a complete-game gem in a 4-1 win against 4x defending champion Neshannock:

LET. DREW. COOK. 👨🍳 South Allegheny’s star senior sinks a game-winning putback to send the defending champs back to the WPIAL Class 3A semifinals with a heart-pounding 64-63 upset win against No. 1 Mohawk. Give him 20 points on the night. You’d have to be here to believe it:

Did somebody say Jason Salmon was having himself a game for TJ? 🍣🍣 What an unreal catch and incredible effort to drag the defender into the end zone for a go-ahead 49-yard TD reception late in the fourth quarter. Jaguars up 24-19 over arch rival Belle Vernon at The Beach!

FINAL SCORE: Aliquippa 60, Dallas 14. Quips put on a performance for the ages to capture their fifth state title and complete their first perfect season in their long and storied history, finishing 14-0 as a Class 1A-sized school. They’re now your Class 4A state champs — again:

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the shot heard ‘round South Fayette. Buzzer-beating 3-pointer from way downtown to send the Lady Lions to the state semifinals by the one and only Maddie freakin’ Webber. What an absolute superstar. SF wins it 40-37. Footage courtesy of Brad Everett

Finally, hear from the man who I personally consider to be the greatest active coach in the WPIAL after what may have been the finest performance of his career — Aliquippa’s Mike Warfield. Warfield has now led his alma mater to FIVE WPIAL crowns in seven years at the helm:

TOUCHDOWN: There’s a hat trick for the “other” Goode brother. Junior Qa’lil Goode with his third INT of the first half, and he returns this one 85 yards to the house to make it a 40-14 lead for Aliquippa late in the first half. Huge momentum swing after a solid drive by Dallas:

No shortage of worthy candidates to choose from, but here’s our Player of the Game from Aliquippa’s 60-14 beatdown against Dallas in the PIAA Class 4A finals — sophomore Qa’lil Goode. Goode intercepted three passes and returned one all the way for a pivotal 85-yard pick-six:

Hear from Player of the Game Devin Hall after he scored nine of his game-high 14 points in the fourth quarter, including a go-ahead 3-point play with 16.9 seconds left to lift Upper St. Clair to a crucial 37-36 win against Mt. Lebanon in one of the WPIAL’s most heated rivalries:
