Kinda chic to be one of the only zoos in America with giant cloud rats. 👀 Have you seen these guys at the Primate House?

The wait is over. 🦁 African lions are back at the Zoo! Six-year-old female Araali (ah-RAH-lee) is now exploring Big Cat Country, and 12-year-old male Bantu will join her later this fall. Read all about it 👉

Time for a PUPdate! Our resident African painted dog pups have opened their eyes — and playtime is on! 🐾🥹 The pups will make their public debut later this winter — stay tuned for the next “pupdate” and learn more at

Happy first weekend of 2025 courtesy of baby Asian elephant Jet!

PUPdate: It's time for vet checks! 🩺💗 Our resident African painted dog pups recently had their 3-month vet check from the Zoo’s Animal Health Team. Mopani, Kambala, Karroo and Teak received full physical exams and their second round of puppy vaccines!

Everyone loves a summer treat! 🍧 Zoo staff made a “Rocket pop” for resident grizzly bears Huck and Finley. The duo loved this icy snack filled with one of their favorite foods, salmon!

Asian elephant calf Jet doesn’t mess around when it comes to playtime. Unless there’s mud involved... 😉

Big birthday news: Zuko is officially out in Big Cat Country! 🎉🐾 This one-year-old ocelot is now making appearances in his public habitat, so keep an eye out! Sightings may be irregular while Zuko gets used to his new space.

Just a toddler chimp doing toddler chimp things. 🐵😍

Winnie the red panda loved this Halloween pumpkin filled with one of her favorite treats: Biscuits! #redpanda #halloween

Take a moment to just watch penguins enjoy some bubbles outside 🫧🐧

Penguin bubble party? Yes please! 🫧🐧 One-year-old rockhopper penguin Bumi had a blast with bubble enrichment! Keepers set up a bubble machine for the indoor habitat at Penguin & Puffin Coast for a fun bubble party.

The Zoo might be closed, but Kallu is making the most of this winter weather! ❄️ 🐾 Stay warm out there, everyone!

It’s a bear-y sweet Valentine’s Day at the Zoo! Zoo staff showed their love for our resident sibling grizzly bears with a giant ice block of goodies. Huck and Finley paws-itively adored their valentine! 💘

“Our City. Our Zoo” Primate keepers provided some red chalk to the colobus monkeys and their very own tifo! Even the Primates are #AllInCity for St. Louis CITY SC! #PaintTheCITYRed

Say hello to five adorable cheetah cubs born May 5 at the Saint Louis Zoo! 👋 These cuties are the first litter for parents Cora and Vader and the first successful cheetah births at the Zoo in more than seven years. The cubs are expected to make a public debut later this year.

Step into our penguin elevator! 🐧 Residents at Penguin & Puffin Coast use this special lift to travel behind the scenes. It's not open to guests, but here's a sneak peek inside. 😉

Look who’s new: Four African painted dog pups were born at the Saint Louis Zoo on Dec. 26, 2025. This is the first litter for this species ever born at the Zoo! 🐾👏 Learn more at

Humboldt penguin Chiquitita recently took an enrichment field trip to the sub-Antarctic habitat! The Humboldts live outdoors in a separate space, so she couldn’t stay long, but we have a feeling Chiquitita and king penguin Elmer will be great “long distance” friends. 😉

Come along to a penguin eye exam🐧 Zoo penguins had a recent visit with veterinary ophthalmologists from Animal Eye Associates of St. Louis. Just like for humans, overall eye health is important for animals in our care!

This weather is for the birds-- especially penguins! Some king and gentoo penguins ventured outside Penguin & Puffin Coast with keepers to enjoy this wintery weather. They explored in the snow and had a fun day of play! The walks are not pre-scheduled and do not occur regularly.

Big news for a little elephant! 🐘💙 Starting today, five-month-old Asian elephant calf Jet will be making frequent appearances in the public habitats in River's Edge at the Zoo. There’s no set schedule for when Jet will be out and about. Read more at

This snow is Kali approved.❄️ Early this morning, the habitat camera recorded our favorite polar bear enjoying a "bath" in the freshly fallen snow. You can watch our livestream of Kali's snowy habitat today on YouTube here:

No matter how snowy it gets, Saint Louis Zoo keepers and other staff are here to make sure animals get the best care (and some fun snow enrichment inside!) We are closed to the public today, but enjoy these scenes captured by keepers from our snow closure days earlier this week.

A quick reminder from baby Jet: Time to drink some water! While mom Jade is still nursing Jet, he is learning how to drink water using his trunk! You can even see him (and hear him) blowing bubbles with his trunk!

Have you ever seen an ostrich dance? In the wild, this “dancing” behavior might attract a mate, demonstrate social hierarchy or even help ostriches communicate. For our resident females Opal and Olive, it's just a bit of fun! 😉

SNOW DAY!!! ❄️❄️ Before the Zoo closed yesterday afternoon, guests could see Kali enjoying the snowfall by rolling around in the snow.
