PUPdate: It's time for vet checks! 🩺💗 Our resident African painted dog pups recently had their 3-month vet check from the Zoo’s Animal Health Team. Mopani, Kambala, Karroo and Teak received full physical exams and their second round of puppy vaccines!

The joyful camel frolicking you didn’t know you needed today. 🐪🐪🐪 Last week, our resident Bactrian camels at Saint Louis Zoo WildCare Park became the first animals to explore the park’s 63-acre Woodland Safari pasture. Judging by those gallops, they approve!

Did you know: Sand acts as "elephant sunscreen!” ☀️ Elephants throw sand and dirt on their backs to protect their skin and stay cool. When you’re visiting the Zoo on these hot summer days, remember to be like elephant calf Jet and wear sunscreen!

It’s a bear-y sweet Valentine’s Day at the Zoo! Zoo staff showed their love for our resident sibling grizzly bears with a giant ice block of goodies. Huck and Finley paws-itively adored their valentine! 💘

Say hello to five adorable cheetah cubs born May 5 at the Saint Louis Zoo! 👋 These cuties are the first litter for parents Cora and Vader and the first successful cheetah births at the Zoo in more than seven years. The cubs are expected to make a public debut later this year.

Humboldt penguin Chiquitita recently took an enrichment field trip to the sub-Antarctic habitat! The Humboldts live outdoors in a separate space, so she couldn’t stay long, but we have a feeling Chiquitita and king penguin Elmer will be great “long distance” friends. 😉

Fun in the sun with Jet! 🌞 Playtime for Asian elephant calf Jet means cooling off in his pool, climbing logs and running around his habitat. Exploring and playing is important for a baby elephant’s development, and Jet is now 9 months old!

Come along to a penguin eye exam🐧 Zoo penguins had a recent visit with veterinary ophthalmologists from Animal Eye Associates of St. Louis. Just like for humans, overall eye health is important for animals in our care!

Watch this adorable moment when 1-year-old Cornelia, a Sichuan takin (rhymes with rockin’), meets her brand-new baby brother, Spud. Spud was born on March 29 to Dawn and dad Yadier. Come say hi to this cute “little potato” next time you’re at the Zoo’s Red Rocks!

Big news for a little elephant! 🐘💙 Starting today, five-month-old Asian elephant calf Jet will be making frequent appearances in the public habitats in River's Edge at the Zoo. There’s no set schedule for when Jet will be out and about. Read more at

This weather is for the birds-- especially penguins! Some king and gentoo penguins ventured outside Penguin &amp; Puffin Coast with keepers to enjoy this wintery weather. They explored in the snow and had a fun day of play! The walks are not pre-scheduled and do not occur regularly.

This snow is Kali approved.❄️ Early this morning, the habitat camera recorded our favorite polar bear enjoying a "bath" in the freshly fallen snow. You can watch our livestream of Kali's snowy habitat today on YouTube here:

No matter how snowy it gets, Saint Louis Zoo keepers and other staff are here to make sure animals get the best care (and some fun snow enrichment inside!) We are closed to the public today, but enjoy these scenes captured by keepers from our snow closure days earlier this week.

A quick reminder from baby Jet: Time to drink some water! While mom Jade is still nursing Jet, he is learning how to drink water using his trunk! You can even see him (and hear him) blowing bubbles with his trunk!
