Greetings from Kyiv and our –11 °C. Filmed this earlier today, when I finally decided it was time to go out and buy some food. We still have only rare hours with electricity and minimal heating. Now an air raid alert has joined the list.

Around eight million books were destroyed in Kharkiv yesterday. Many Ukrainians are responding by buying books from the affected publishers and from KnyhoLand, the bookstore chain that also used the warehouse. I bought these today.

My Kyiv-Lviv train was delayed by three hours. It is Ukrainian Statehood Day, marking more than 1,000 years of Ukrainian statehood, from Kyivan Rus to modern Ukraine. International delegations arrived in Kyiv by train, which may have affected the railway schedule.

4:51 pm in hometown Surrounded by forest. Next to each flag there is an oak tree. Next to each flag there is a plate with a name, date of birth and date of death. Soldiers. Born in this tiny town. Killed in this big war. Oak field of death. I visited it today. No words to add.

If you wonder how big Kyiv is. The territory of Kyiv is about 847 km² (327 sq mi) – slightly larger than New York City by land area, almost as large as Berlin, and nearly eight times the size of Paris.
