The APC Presidential campaign council, PCC DG, Senator Abubakar Yari commences strategic political consultations across the country. This is the first outing of the campaign. In what must be regarded as a tactical grass root political campaign, the DG of the PCC has quietly commenced a consultative process with traditional and religious leaders across the country. The first stop, after the massive prayer session by over 1,000 Islamic clerics in his place last week is on the visit to the Sultanate. A meeting with the Sultan of Sokoto, his eminence Alhaji Abubakar III. “ We believe in justice. President Tinubu has achieved a lot and we can demonstrate that. We have a lot to showcase “. DG PCC Senator Yari. The Sultan in his remarks said, “Politics is a game of numbers, not of death. In politics what you need is people…” We must not weaponize politics in a negative way. Insecurity is everybody’s problem. You can never eradicate poverty. You can reduce it. You can never eradicate insecurity. But you can reduce it. The consultative rounds will span the six geopolitical zones and is carefully orchestrated by a man who is Grassroot and People oriented in his politics. *On State Police* “No, the President has not dropped the ball. He has pressed the switch. As journalists, we also record history. The debate on state police first became prominent about 19 years ago. Records show that President Bola Tinubu was one of the earliest and strongest advocates for state police. Over the years, the argument was weakened by fears that governors might turn state police into personal militias. However, when one looks at the facts, the rising insecurity and the shortage of police officers in critical areas across the states have made the case for state police much stronger. The President could have stayed silent. Instead, as he did with the tax reforms, he made his position clear in public and stood by it firmly in a bold and unexpected way. It is unusual for a sitting President to speak so directly on this matter. I was present when he addressed a group of leaders in the federal chamber. He stated that Nigeria needs state police and that he would ask the National Assembly to take the matter forward, because it is the right thing to do.”
