⚠️ Newport Beach is already building berms ahead of the next round. Hurricane Polo just exploded from a tropical storm to a Category 5 overnight, the second-fastest intensification on record! With current sustained winds of 165 mph, 920 mb pressure, and peak seas of 40+ feet, it’s currently parked off Mexico. The core stays offshore, but a massive swell is coming. Models have it hitting SoCal late week into the weekend, bringing 10–15 ft faces to south-facing spots and up to 20+ at Wedge. I spoke to somebody that witnessed the whole thing from the start. It started on the beach with people throwing fireworks at each other, it then move to people harassing the PD horses, which then proceeded to an unruly crowd of Inlanders against officers and throwing fireworks into the parking lots. NBPD ordered all bars and business closed and also completely shut down east and west balboa blvd at 21st street. The traffic is backed up to nearly the entire Peninsula.
