Went to observe the ‘Stop The Boats’ protest in Brighton today, along with the ‘Carnival Against Fascism’ counter-protest held in response. For a so-called “peaceful” anti-fascism march, police had to remove scaffolding poles many people in the crowd had armed themselves with. Then Raise The Colours arrived. What followed was utter carnage, (this 5 minute clip edited down from around over 30 minutes). At times, one officer (CP21) appeared to be almost single-handedly holding back the baying mob, as the huge police presence had been positioned elsewhere. Members of Sussex Friends of Israel and Jewish & Proud lined over a mile of Hastings seafront with Israeli flags, posters, and yellow ribbons last night to mark the anniversary of October 7th. Even as they were being put up, some showed a disturbing lack of humanity by tearing them down — but this is what people woke up to this morning. Yet again this morning in Hastings, people were seen tearing down the October 7th flags — just hours after they were put up. When one of our members calmly confronted them, he was assaulted and they tried to grab his phone. What kind of person behaves like that? Our peaceful vigil for Oct 7 hostages was attacked today. A youngster and his mother tried to snatch our flag - then the youngster punched one of members in the stomach and face, totally unprovoked. When he was restrained, his mother shouted “that’s unacceptable he’s only 15”!
