Every time it rains, Jammu-Srinagar National Highway falls apart somewhere between Jammu and Banihal. A road that collapses with the change in weather has no business being called a national highway. Rename it “National Disaster Highway” until it is built to last. And one more thing; why should commuters keep paying toll for a road that turns into a hazard every time it starts raining? Or Should be ban Monsoon from entering Jammu and Kashmir Because it seems NHAI is more concerned about Toll and less worried about making this road safe for commuters? Office of LG J&K and Omar Abdullah when will this change?

“During Operation Sindoor, heaviest cash withdrawals were happening in Poonch and Rajouri. We had taken a conscious call to ensure not even a single ATM is allowed to run dry. This was at a time when RBI was not supplying cash to that area. Even then, we diverted funds from other regions and ensured cash reached where it was needed most. I had asked our staff not to stay in those locations. Many shifted their families to safety but they themselves stayed back. They went into the field and kept refilling ATMs, hour after hour. Even today, when I recall it, I get goosebumps. They were risking their lives. When I asked them why, they said, ‘Sir, if we don’t do this, how will people survive?’ In those hours of unrest, J&K Bank’s ATMs were the only ones that had cash. No other bank could manage it. None of our senior functionaries including myself left the headquarters even when we were advised to operate remotely. That is because J&K Bank is not just a bank. It is a lifeline for the people of Jammu and Kashmir," said Amitava Chatterjee, MD & CEO of Jammu and Kashmir Bank in an interview with thestraightline.

This is what the youth of Jammu and Kashmir have been reduced to. 90 MLAs have been elected by these young people on both sides of the Navyug Tunnel yet they are forced to sit outside BJP office, pleading with the democratically elected government for age relaxation. What to expect of a government whose priority is seemingly lavish renovation of alloted government Bungalows and wailing over business rules which they have to draft and which they have failed to draft so far.

Jammu and Kashmir is purchasing power worth Rs.10,000 Crore. Of this, J&K govt pays around Rs.6000 crore from its own kitty. Revenue is around Rs.4000 crore. So, J&K govt is already giving free Bijli worth Rs.6000 Crore. Now, if 200 Units free Bijli is added to this loss making business; J&K’s Bijli purchase would become it’s major headache.

Society should stop blaming government for opening-up more liquor shops. Instead, it should look inwards and ask, why have our religious institutions miserbly failed in keeping people away from drinking. Delivering hateful sermons is easy but building a community is difficult. Kashmiris are a fragmented society. Every sect has its own mosque but medicine stores across the valley tell u a completely different story.
