Built as an isolation ward for international air passengers during COVID, the building has been repurposed as a Centre for Hospice Care as a part of Madras Medical College, at a cost of ₹30.16 crore. The 180-bedded Centre for Hospice Care for terminally-ill cancer patients was inaugurated in February. The centre has facilities to provide care for 300 to 400 cancer patients every year, providing end-of-life care, pain management, counselling, and psychosocial support & palliative care for patients.
