Chandler Simpson 😳 That might be the farthest ball he’s hit in his MLB career. 356 feet at a 98 off the bat.

The Rays don’t lose many trades, but the Aaron Civale/Kyle Manzardo trade is not going to age well… Manzardo is 2-2 today with a HR, triple and a walk.

Dylan Lesko, one of the prospects acquired in the Jason Adam trade, is having a nice season in Low-A. He has a 1.89 ERA with a 37.4% whiff rate in 19 innings. A big reason for that high number is his changeup, as you can see in this video.

Rays catching prospect Caden Bodine has been promoted to AA Montgomery. He has a .967 OPS in 65 games across Low-A and High-A this season, with only 16 strikeouts compared to 25 walks. He is flying through the farm system.

In 15 AAA games since his injury, Jacob Melton is slashing .333/.415/.614 with 4 HRs and a 18.5% K rate. He looks ready to join the Rays. It’s just tough because they have 5 other MLB caliber OFs who deserve a spot on the team. Vilade and DeLuca obviously aren’t going anywhere as they are the only 2 RHH OFs, Simpson isn’t either. That leaves Mesa Jr. and Mullins, who have both shown their value. Getting rid of Mullins means a trade or DFA, which really impacts the OF depth. Given the fact that some of the OFs on the team have had extensive injury concerns in the past, that would be tough to do. Mesa Jr. seems the likeliest option to go, but he’s been really impressive since coming up. Overall this is a good problem to have, but it’s a difficult spot to be in.

One of the coolest home runs in Rays history. Everything about it. Absolutely crushed, off one of the best lefty starters in the sport, at Yankee stadium, in what was the difference in the game to secure the sweep. Victor Mesa Jr. is a star, and he’s just scratching the surface.

Rays catcher prospect Caden Bodine has the lowest K% in the minors at 3.7%(!) He is also slugging .617 and has a walk rate over 10%. The Rays might have themselves as special prospect on their hands folks. I expect him to move through the minors quickly.

Rays CEO Ken Babby on what MLB Commissioner Robert Manfred said last night to him on the phone: “We are in the late innings of a very long game with the future of baseball in Tampa Bay hanging in the balance. We have faith in Tampa Bay as a Major League city and I hope that the city council responds with a positive vote to this non binding MOU.”

Justyn-Henry Malloy, who was just DFA’d, is an interesting potential option for the Rays. They only have 2 RH OFs on the 40 man roster, and Malloy has crushed lefties in his short MLB career. He is also coming off a very strong 2025 AAA season.
