RACISM in Kyiv, on Khreschatyk Street. This woman called me a nigger repeatedly and told me to go back to Africa because this country is for Ukrainians—not niggers. When I turned on the camera, she turned into a Karen. Thing is, she’s not even Ukrainian. Prolly American.

I’m all for supporting Ukraine and their efforts to raise money, but why do these Ukrainian influencers need to use blackface to play Tina Turner to do it. This is extremely racist. This is not OK and I won’t be quiet about it. I’ve been supporting and defending Ukraine for more than a decade and will continue to do so. I won’t defend this.

I know many Venezuelans are happy that Maduro is gone. (So am I). I know of his human rights abuses. They are well-documented. That said, do I agree with my country kidnapping him, bypassing US congressional approval and any regard to international law or human rights? No.

Russia bombed Chornomorsk severely Saturday morning. But Saturday night, Chornomorsk partied on the beach. Ukrainians refuse to suffer. Shout out to Oyster Chornomorsk for the dope party and the great DJ, whose name I couldn’t get. He has great taste. I love anything Trina!

It’s so cold in my flat here in Kyiv that I need to wear a scull cap and a sweater to bed. I have double layers of underwear and socks, too. I see my breathe when I talk. That’s how cold it is in my flat. This is all because of Russian attacks on the power grid.

African-Ukrainian model Regina Mayakovska was forced to flee her native Donetsk when Russia invaded in 2014. Mayakovska grew up speaking Ukrainian and Russian and says claims that Russian speakers are oppressed is “all bullshit.” As year three of the war approaches, I will spend the rest of the year talking with Black people who live in Ukraine and get their perspective of how the war impacts them. On Feb. 8, Mayakovska will share her story of being an Afro-Ukrainian model, living under Russian occupation as a Black woman and her thoughts on what a peace deal that includes ceding land to Russia will mean for her and her family on Black Diplomats Official YouTube channel.

We have to do a better job of supporting our Palestinian journalist colleagues who are dying at unacceptable rates covering the war in Gaza. Every chance we get, we should be using our platforms to pressure Israel and the U.S. to address the abuse Palestinian reporters face. 🇵🇸✊🏾

Why would you ask Ukrainians to cede land to Russia?!?! Every day, Russian officials and their proxies talk about Ukrainians like they are white trash (Yes, I said it!). The Kremlin doesn't want peace with Ukraine. Occupation does NOT equal peace. Russia wants to enslave Ukraine, which is why there is no such thing as "peace" with Russia. Only military defeat. Hey, everyone. I'm heading back to Ukraine in December, but I need your help to finance a very important project on Black people in Ukraine. I was hoping to get a grant to finance a five-part series on Afro-Ukrainians and Africans who’ve never left Ukraine, but it fell through. That is why I’m asking you to help me raise 15,000 dollars to go to Ukraine in December to produce the series. We’ll interview Black people who have never spoken to Western audiences about what it has been like for them to experience Russia’s brutal attack on their country. It’s a rare perspective on the war that doesn't get enough attention but one I’m ready to bring to life. I’m calling the series, “Black in Ukraine: Living Through The War.” 15,000 dollars will cover airfare, hotels, in-country transportation, food, insurance, video editing, translators and incidentals for me and my U.S.-based videographer, Mike Hull. The series will run the week leading up to February 24, the three-year-mark of the war. It will air on Black Diplomats Official YouTube. Please support this project by giving whatever you can.
