To me, trading for C.J. Gardner-Johnson was similar to the Stefon Diggs move, a talented player whose passion can be both a benefit and a potential distraction. The Diggs gamble worked until injury. With CJGJ, it seemed to work early on. He was reportedly cut amid locker-room distractions, but this was a low-risk, high-reward play for Houston. I also think CJGJ’s ultra-competitive nature and not being used to starting 0-3 factored in. Not excusing anything, just pointing that out.
