The Reds have signed St. Thomas (NAIA) pitcher Juan Polo. Originally a Royals international signee in 2019, Polo posted a 7.53 ERA with 21 SO through 14 IP in the DSL. After being cut by the Royals, Polo opted to play JUCO at Clarendon where he threw 60.1 innings striking out 111 and posting a 6.56 ERA in 2022. He then transferred to Kansas Christian (NCCAA) where he threw 5 innings posting a 3.60 ERA striking out 9. Finally in 2024 Polo transferred into St. Thomas where he threw 35 innings striking out 62 with a 4.89 ERA this year. This year he flashed a 5 pitch mix of FB/SI/CH/FC/SL. His fastball topped at 99 mph but sits in the 94-95 range. It generated a ton of whiffs up in the zone as it completely overpowered hitters when located.
