MEANWHILE IN DARJEELING: Rare Black Leopard Cub Spotted Along Mungpoo Road MUNGPOO: A remarkable wildlife sighting along Mungpoo Road has highlighted the rich biodiversity of the Darjeeling hills. Two leopard cubs were reportedly spotted at Bich Kaman, with one appearing to be a rare melanistic, or black leopard. The sighting is a powerful reminder that our forests and green corridors continue to provide habitat for some of the region’s most elusive wildlife. The presence of leopard families in human-dominated landscapes also underlines the importance of protecting natural habitats and promoting peaceful coexistence. Residents, motorists and visitors are urged to maintain a safe distance and not approach, chase, surround or disturb the animals. People should avoid loud noises, bright lights and following the animals for photographs or videos. The sighting is a privilege, but also a responsibility. By respecting wildlife and giving these animals the space they need, we can help ensure that the Darjeeling hills remain a thriving sanctuary for biodiversity. Parveen Kaswan, IFS

LAATON KE BHOOT, BAATON SE.... Darjeeling Municipality is now actively fining tourists who are littering in public places, and not dumping in designated dustbins. This is an excellent initiative. We request all locals - especially drivers, hotel and restaurant and other businesses to actively co-operate, and inform all tourists that there is a fine for littering in public. We thank and applaud all those who are involved in enforcing this noble initiative. CC: Agnimitra Paul BJP Suvendu Adhikari Raju Bista Kanchan Gupta 🇮🇳
