Pixel art was MADE to be viewed on a CRT TV. The blooming, scanlines, etc are part of the image that smooths it out, blends colors together, and gets rid of the harsh edges. The original game artists created everything with that analog distortion in mind, so the raw pixels aren't necessarily what they intended you to see. Don't get me wrong, raw pixels can look cool too! And if you like that look, then by all means go for it. But it's worth trying a nice CRT shader on them to see if you might like it even better!

AI video is waaaaay better than most people realize. I came with this stupid idea for a terrible PS1 game with hideous textures and a jumping catfish... 30 minutes later, I had this. It's almost exactly what I had in my head. Between Nano Banana, GPT Image 2 and Seedance 2 you can pretty much create anything you can think of, with more granular control than people realize. It's not perfect but it's VERY good and I'm really excited to see the wild shit that new creators do with it!

Finished this desktop app that does CRT shaders and VHS/composite video distortion 🙌 I was tired of doing those in separate apps, so I figured I'd just put them together. AFAIK, it's the only one that does both at this level of quality and control. It supports images and videos, with VERY granular control over every parameter from subtle to completely obliterated. To be clear, I'm a dummy. This is just hacking together two existing open source projects that are the best in the world at what they do: NTSC-RS for the TV effect, and the CRT shaders from Retroarch. If you watched MTV, VH1 or Fuse in the 2000's you saw Justin Harder's work many, many times. This is his 2004 reel, and probably my single favorite design artifact of all time. He's pretty lowkey these days, but his work blew EVERYONE away back then and he was one of the most copied designers of the decade (myself included). IMO a lot of this stuff would still look fresh as hell if it came out today, and he definitely deserves his flowers for being such a huge part of that and era/aesthetic that so many people loved. AFAIK he's not on here, so I can't tag him.

COMING SOON TO PS1: Tony Squawk's Pro Skater 🛹 Featuring Chad Molluska (definitely not the octopus version of Chad Muska), Bam Marsupial and more! Backgrounds, graphics and characters are Nano Banana, videos are Seedance 2 and workflow is Figma Weave There's a few rough spots, eg the voices are slightly inconsistent, lip sync is a little wrong in one shot, etc but overall I'm pretty happy with it as a proof of concept! Might build this out into a full cut scene/level some time.
