The Bradford Bulls and the Leeds Rhinos have a long, storied history of match-ups, with memorable games like the one below, which marked a good few days for the club after their 24-22 win over the Leeds Rhinos in 2019. What a great game this one was with the Bradford Bulls showing a huge amount of character and spirit. On Friday evening they get to do it all over again with the long-awaited return of the Bradford vs Leeds Super League derby. With over 10,000 plus tickets already sold and strong demand from both sides of the Bulls and Rhinos supporter base, anticipation is building. There's a real possibility that the attendance could soar to 13,000-14,000, making it the biggest crowd at Odsal Stadium since 2012.

Batley Bulldogs forward Dane Manning has been scantioned by the RFL with a Grade E charge of punching Waqa Blake. Due to the severity of the offence, Dane Manning has been immediately referred to an Operational Rules Tribunal, with a minimum suspension to begin at least a six-match suspension. The RFL have acted strongly and rightly so due to the savage nature of the blows which rocked the sport and put Rugby League in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons last weekend.

The Bradford Bulls have unveiled a modern new look, replacing its 30-year old logo with a new identity, representing an exciting new era for the club. The new logo is part of a full club rebrand that represents a new Bulls for the 2026 season, following its return to the Super League. Keen to reflect the changes the club has been through over the last three years, on and off the field, the logo has been modernised but draws elements of its brand identity from its history. The iconic V from the Bulls’ glory era is represented in the head of the Bull. Whilst the new Bullhorn font is more dynamic, it retains the colours and the curved structure of the logo it replaces. The two halves of the bull's shoulders represent a rugby ball, whilst the four stars symbolise the club’s four Super League titles. The new emblem will be incorporated into all branding over the coming months, with fresh merchandise and the new kit hitting online and physical stores this month. Jason Hirst, CEO at Bradford Bulls, said: “Rejoining the Betfred Super League 2026 and full-time professionalism heralds another new era for our great club. “There are striking similarities to 30-years ago when Super League, professional summer Rugby League and Bradford Bulls were all born. “Today’s changes, whilst not as seismic as our name change in 1996, are nevertheless an important day in our club’s history. Our new club crest perfectly captures the direction of the future Bradford Bulls. “It’s more confident, aggressive and defiant, which is exactly the philosophy and approach we’ll be taking into Super League, both on the field and off it, in terms of our marketing and media approach. “Whilst we have the same heart, the same pride, we’re also coming back as a different beast. “Everyone in UK Rugby League has an opinion on Bradford Bulls. Shameful scenes between West Bank Bears and Myton Warriors during their junior Rugby League match at the weekend. We’ve already seen the viral video clip appearing to show a group of spectators abusing and jeering a player as he attempted to take a kick at goal. Now we find out towards the end of the same game spectators have grabbed hold of and abused the match officials by entering the field of play. British Amateur Rugby League Association's (BARLA) need to investigate and ban those responsible for this utterly shameful behaviour.

I found myself watching this particular game earlier tonight, and it struck me how extraordinary it was. It featured one of the most unique video referee decisions ever made in Super League history, a decision so rare that it has not been seen before or since. Eagle-eyed referee Ian Smith suspects that Brent Webb may be offside in a position which is nicknamed “downtown” by the match officials. Video referee Thierry Alibert confidently made the crucial and correct decision that would shape the outcome of the match in Bradford’s favour. Interestingly, Thierry is coming back to work with Phil Bentham and the RFL match officials department for the new 2025 season.

The start of the new Championship season has been marked by controversy in game one. Initially, the referee awarded a try to Benjamin Laguerre, as Toulouse drew level at 18-18. However, the jubilation of Laguerre’s leveller was short-lived, as the referee quickly reversed his decision after consulting with his touch judge. There is nothing in the RFL match officials rule book which says that once a try has been awarded it can be ruled out. Widnes starting the new season with a controversial 18-14 win France.

Bradford Bulls CEO Jason Hirst is now addressing the large crowd that has gathered inside Odsal Stadium this evening. My own thoughts on Jason are that is always a privilege spending time with this great man on this journey back to Super League. Jason has revitalised Bradford during his time at the club. He deserves this special night of celebrations. He really is a giant man full of class and humility. Bradford are in safe hands with Jason Hirst at the helm.

I'd totally forgotten that the first two Super League seasons allowed the video referee to adjudicate on forward passes. The London Broncos saw this try stand in a big 40-16 win over the Leeds Rhinos , but the following week, it wasn't the case when St Helens had one disallowed by the video referee in their defeat to the Bradford Bulls.

Toulouse Olympique are the Championship Grand Final winners for 2025. They never give up. Toulouse showing such resilience, such determination and such composure from Jake Shorrocks to be the difference. Sylvain Houles side wearing even the most determined, tactically-disciplined opponents down, feeding and forcing off their mistakes. They will be in the Super League next season and deservedly so.

Super League side Bradford Bulls have announced that Fijian flyer Waqa Blake has signed a new, full-time two year deal – keeping him at the club until the end of the 2027 season. The 31-year-old initially joined the Bulls on a two-year deal prior to the start of the 2025 campaign, having previously represented Penrith Panthers, Paramatta Eels and St Helens. Blake certainly made an instant impression amongst the Bulls faithful with his all-action approach with and without the ball – making 31 appearances earlier this year in the red, amber and black, scoring 14 tries and creating an astonishing 19 try assists.

Meant to post this over the weekend. I’m still struggling to see how this is deemed legal. I wonder how we've come to a rule in 2025 that makes it okay for players tackle someone in the air, late and attack the knees - forcing the player to suffer a dislocation. The rule book simply isn't fit for purpose. Shocking.
