MJ: "You only got three, I got six." When asked in 2017, who ranks higher between LeBron and Kobe, MJ picked Kobe. His reasoning: "Would I rank LeBron over Kobe in terms of best of all time? No. There's something about five that beats three." The goal has always been to win championships. Trying to include Robert Horry in the conversation is just a red herring. People try and use Kobe's 00 Finals average as an indictment to his contribution to winning that ring but fail to bring up Kobe's defense in game one, holding Reggie Miller to 1-16 in a decisive 104-87 victory. Feel free to read that again. To show you Kobe's value, he was injured in game 2 after almost 9 minutes of play and what was a 17 point victory turned into a 6 point victory and a 9 point loss in game 3 without him. Indiana could've easily won game 4 after Shaq fouled out, and we all know what happened next. Kobe earned that ring despite how you interpret the box score. At the end of the day, Kobe still has five championships that the Lakers wouldn't have won without him. The proof in that statement lies in the fact that when Kobe had a lesser role in 97, 98, & 99, they were gentlemen swept, swept, and swept before even making the finals. The minute Kobe's role increased, they rattled off three straight championships. That's not a coincidence...
