Her funeral was so momentous that the late Alhaji Haruna Ishola waxed a record (Late Mary Awolowo) in her honour, saying he has never seen a funeral so great. In 2000, his son Musiliu, remixed it for the burial of Otunba Fasawe’s mother in Soyoyo and the music was just as sweet!

Recently discovered a young Malian singer on TikTok singing a live version of her song Bagniago. Her name is Mami Diarra & I hope she’s the next big thing from Africa, after Angelique Kidjo. Also, could be the inflection - I'm hearing some Fuji similarities (Islamic influences?).

The AMVCA moment that stands out the most to me was when the late great Buki Ajayi received the Industry Merit Award in 2016. She was 82 and couldn’t believe all these people were giving her a standing ovation. “And Peace”, she said. Four months later, she passed away.

The most interesting thing I found out this week (h/t our uncle Double Chief Nze Ed Emeka Keazor) was that Akin Davies, the D in Rod Publicity as sung to us by KSA on ‘E Kilo F'omo Ode’ in 1974, was the father of the BAFTA winning brothers, “Tec” Wale Davies and Akinola Jr.
