Jennifer Gardener acknowledges here that divorce is a loss for children because they no longer benefit of both parents - the mom and dad, the “yin and yang” as she called it. She’s right. But then she goes on to argue that after divorce, dad just becomes “mom and dad,” and mom becomes “mom and dad.” But that’s the problem - no one can replace the other parent. A mother can be an incredible mom, but she cannot be a father. A father can be an incredible dad, but he cannot be a mother. Divorce leaves a real loss in a child’s life, and pretending otherwise doesn’t make that loss disappear. It’s sad to see the obvious cope at the end of this clip.
