‘PICK POCKETER IN ACTION’ … The police at Ongwediva are looking for the man in the video seen pick-pocketing a cellphone from an unsuspecting woman at a service station at the town. The incident took place on Monday. The suspect, who is still unknown, is seen in the footage walking into the shop and removing the phone from the woman’s bag using a newspaper as a cover. CHARGED ... Directorate of Legal Aid lawyer Eva Maria Nangolo is being held in custody after appearing in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court on charges of theft and defeating or obstructing the course of justice on Monday. Nangolo (47) is accused of stealing cosmetic products and vitamin supplements valued at N$3 920 from a Dis-Chem store in the Wernhil Park shopping centre in Windhoek on Saturday. KICKED OUT OF STATE HOUSE … Journalist and The Whistle Namibia founder Jemima Beukes was escorted out of State House in Windhoek on Monday morning after she asked president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah a question. Beukes was attending the opening of Cabinet. The journalist says on her official social media that she asked the president whether she could pose a question. “She said no. I asked it anyway. The question was: 'There are concerns that your family is moving into controlling the country's oil industry.' Immediately after, I was escorted away. A phone belonging to a colleague, which I had used to record the officers manhandling me, was confiscated. I was escorted out of state house. Officers took photos of my car and threatened me with arrest for asking a question after the president had said no,” Beukes says. MAKING HISTORY … The Brahman Bull (Okabra 22-751) has made history at the Okabra Signature Sale in Windhoek on Tuesday selling for an incredible N$800 000, the highest ever paid for a bull. The buyer is Shamrock Investments’s Colin Venaani. The second-highest price was N$350 000 while five of the first six bulls auctioned sold for over N$100 000. JUST LANDED … American streamer Darren Watkins Jr, popularly known as IShowSpeed, arrived at the Eros Airport on Tuesday as part of his Africa StreamTour. The streamer has already toured 16 of the 20 African countries he has planned to visit, with Namibia being his 17th stop. ‘HOW DARE YOU’ ... Education minister Sanet Steenkamp was visibly upset in the National Assembly on Wednesday while reacting to remarks of Nudo member of parliament Vetaruhe Kandorozu that education deputy minister Dino Ballotti does do not look like a Namibian and that “white Europeans are not Namibians.” Reacting to the remarks, Steenkamp demanded to know what Kandorozu meant by his statement. “We are all Namibians. FUEL PANIC ... Fuel queues grew across Windhoek on Tuesday as residents prepared for a fuel price increase taking effect at midnight. Some service stations have already closed early in an effort to manage demand and prevent excessive oil consumption, leaving motorists scrambling to secure fuel before the price increase. In the queues was member of parliament James Uerikua, who said he was filling up ahead of the increase and encouraged others to do the same. “Get your drums ready; the price increase will affect pockets,” he said. HOT WATER RESTORED ... Health and social services minister Esperance Luvindao and works and transport minister Veikko Nekundi on Wednesday announced the restoration of hot water at Windhoek Central Hospital, following the completion of a N$6.4-million project. “The restoration took about seven months to complete, it included the installation of 14 new industrial geysers, refurbishment of the maternity ward’s hot water system, replacement of old galvanised pipes and upgrades to electrical distribution boards,” Nekundi said. Taxi drivers want an increase in taxi fares six years after the last increment. “A customer can pay N$120 for Yango to go to Havana, but the taxi fare remains N$13.
