Afghan Taliban senior leader Sirajuddin Haqqani attended the funeral prayer in Khost for local commander Haji Sado, also known as Abdul Sattar, where he praised Sado’s loyalty and militant role. In detailing Sado’s activities, Haqqani disclosed that he had assigned Sado responsibility for safely delivering four Arab commanders, including senior al-Qaeda leader Abu Yahya al-Libi, following their escape from the U.S. detention facility at Bagram in 2005. Although Abu Yahya al-Libi stated in a video interview in Waziristan after his escape that Haqqani’s associates played a critical role in facilitating their transfer to his then emir, Abu al-Layth al-Libi, in Waziristan, Haqqani’s remarks mark the first time it has been revealed that Haji Sado was the commander who carried out the safe transfer to Waziristan.
