UPDATE ON APPA: K9 Appa is on the road to recovery after being shot during that armed standoff on August 4. The dog took rounds from the suspect who had pointed a gun at a deputy and fled after contacting kids in the area. Deputies finished the threat. Appa went into surgery fighting for his life. Now the update. He had two surgeries. His prognosis is good. He’s been released from the vet and is home recovering with his handler and family. The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office says they’re encouraged by his progress and remain hopeful. There’s even video of him walking around and crushing his breakfast. They say he’s got a long road still, but they’re optimistic he’ll get back out there catching bad guys and finding dope. That’s the toughness these K9s bring.
