A throwback from January 15, 1982 - Walking out of the White House with James Brown, the Godfather of Soul and a mentor and father figure, after meeting with U.S. President Ronald Reagan and Vice President George H. W. Bush to advocate for a federal holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This was part of a broader push led by Mrs. King, Stevie Wonder, and many others who worked tirelessly to see Dr. King’s birthday recognized nationwide. Tonight marks the final episode of The #StephenColbert Show. I remember being a guest on the show in 2023 and enjoying the experience immensely. Stephen Colbert is a rare talent and a principled public figure. The American people deserve voices like his, not to see them pushed aside for vile political reasons.

“Jordan— I didn’t know you. I know your aunt, & I’ve talked to your daddy. And one thing I promise is in your name, we’re going to change how they deal w/ homelessness. In your name, we’re going to change how they deal w/the mentally ill.”-Rev. Al Sharpton #JordanNeely

Hmmm, Interesting🤔 Trump now wants to send the National Guard into Washington, D.C. But where was that urgency when he sat for hours on January 6th watching rioters beat police and put Congress in panic? He didn’t call them in then. I’m not against fighting crime, but let’s fight all crime. And certainly, don’t pardon the criminals.

Before heading out to feed the community yesterday during our annual National Action Network Thanksgiving efforts, Attorney General Letitia James, Spike Lee, and Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani joined me to check in on my mentor, Rev. Dr. Jesse Jackson, who was recently released from the hospital after receiving care for progressive supranuclear palsy, a rare brain disorder. With his daughter Santita Jackson on the line, we were able to share our love, prayers, and well wishes directly with him. Lifting him in strength this holiday. A truly special moment.

Today on MSNBC’s #MorningJoe, I called out the blatant bias behind Donald Trump’s refugee policy. Trump welcomed 59 white Afrikaner farmers from South Africa with ceremony and status, yet turns his back on Haitians fleeing gang violence, and others in urgent need. I’ve traveled to South Africa more than a dozen times. I was there in 1994 as an election observer during Mandela’s historic rise. I know firsthand that the ANC stands for reconciliation, not race-based violence. To take the words of extremists and twist them into foreign policy is dangerous. If Trump truly cared about protecting lives, he wouldn’t ignore what’s happening just south of Florida. Bias is not leadership, it’s politics at its worst.

In this video, you can see Governor #TimWalz with us at Daunte Wright’s funeral, who was killed by police in 2021 during the George Floyd trial. In 2020, we demanded justice for George Floyd in Minneapolis. Governor Walz listened to our calls and appointed Attorney General Ellison to lead the investigation. This showed me he is a man who listens and acts in the best interests of his constituents. A year later, we saw justice for George Floyd. We can trust Governor Walz to bring the same openness as Kamala Harris’s vice president. He will be a reliable partner as she leads the nation. Governor Walz has shown he isn’t afraid to confront those who seek to move our country backward, which will help us move forward. He is ready to support Kamala Harris as she aims to become the first Black female President, breaking significant barriers in the process. Video: Supreme Creative Agency

Stepping onto the scene in NYC tonight for the Met Gala, I come not only in recognition of fashion’s finest hour, but in reflection of a nation at a crossroads. While we celebrate creativity and culture, we must also confront the pressing challenges before us, especially the fight to protect our sacred voting rights in this current climate.

Earlier today on Deadline: White House, I joined Nicolle Wallace to address the disturbing video Donald Trump posted on Truth Social last night and later deleted. Let me be clear, this was not a one-off or a “mask off” moment. This is who he has been from the very beginning. Donald Trump launched his political career by questioning President Obama’s legitimacy, after years of discrimination lawsuits and calling for the execution of the Exonerated Five. Racism has always been the throughline. Now we see it wrapped in policy from attacks on DEI, to state-sanctioned racial profiling, immigrants treated like suspects for simply existing, and a push to centralize elections and strip away voting rights. All of this unfolding just days into Black History Month. What’s just as alarming is the silence from corporate America. CEOs and tech executives sit at the table, cut deals, and profit while this administration promotes division. At best they tolerate it. At worst, they enable it. And I don’t believe any company should be allowed to benefit from government contracts or our consumer dollars while financing hate. This moment demands moral clarity. We cannot normalize this behavior. We cannot look away. And we cannot stay quiet while democracy, dignity, and basic human rights are under attack. #DeadlineWhiteHouse #MSNOW

Tragedy should never be used as a political prop. As families grieve the devastating loss of 67 lives in the Washington, D.C. air disaster, we must stand united in mourning, not division. Instead of compassion, we witnessed a shameful display of insensitivity from the White House. Let us honor the lives lost, demand a thorough investigation, and offer our prayers to the families enduring this unimaginable pain. We are better than this. #RespectTheFallen

Today on MSNBC’s #MorningJoe, I laid it out that we’re witnessing a man with 34 felony convictions attempt to run the Federal Reserve, rewrite college curriculums, rename mascots, and control police forces in our cities, all while joking about being a dictator. As we near America’s 250th anniversary, and with midterms just around the corner, the real question isn’t only about Trump’s power grabs, it’s whether Congress and the courts will stand firm and enforce the guardrails of our democracy. When someone found guilty of fraud lectures the nation on ethics, it’s as rich as a Cracker Barrel breakfast.

“I knew Trump for 35 years. I fought with him, went to meet with him, and tried to get him to do things. I’ve never seen a Black employee in Trump’s office, not one. I used to say, going up Trump Towers is like going up the Rocky Mountains. The higher you got, the whiter it got. You didn’t see one Black employee at his trial. So he did what for Blacks? He didn’t do it as a private citizen. And as Steve Ratner’s chacho, he didn’t do it as the president.” - Talking Trump on MSNBC’s #MorningJoe

This morning, Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States, shared video remarks honoring Eric Holder as we presented him with the Lifetime of Excellence in Public Service Award at our 2026 National Action Network Martin Luther King Jr. Day D.C. Awards Breakfast. President Obama’s remarks reflected the depth of Attorney General Holder’s service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and the rule of law. Thank you, President Obama, for these meaningful words, and congratulations to Attorney General Holder on this well-deserved honor. We were proud to recognize Attorney General Holder’s lifetime dedicated to public service and the ongoing pursuit of Dr. King’s vision. #NANMLK2026 #MLKDay2026 #NANMLKBreakfast2026
