I've never met Jordan Bianchi, so I don't know what makes him tick. I can't speak to that. What I CAN say is this. I don't know the long-time reporter Jordan references in this clip, but I can ASSURE you covering the sport back twenty and thirty years ago was NEVER, EVER boring. If a reporter couldn't find anything to write about, they simply weren't trying hard enough. If a championship happened to be clinched early, then by gosh you wrote about the excellence the team exhibited that season. You wrote about the champion crew chief's love for hunting. You wrote about the tire changer's training as a classical violinist. You wrote about the pro baseball players who followed that particular team. You wrote about what other teams in the garage could do to catch up. The championship format is completely irrelevant to having something interesting to write week-in and week-out ... full-season, Chase or playoff.
