Police in Kolkata have arrested three members of a 13-year-old girl’s family, including both her parents, after an 18-year-old, his father and his friend were allegedly assaulted and paraded naked in an act of mob justice. According to police, the 18-year-old met the girl with his friend on Sunday. The girl’s uncle allegedly saw the teenager kissing her and alerted her father and another uncle. The family then took the youths to their home, beat them, and forced the 18-year-old to call his father. When the father arrived, he was also assaulted. A senior officer said the family threatened to shoot all three if they refused to strip, then made them walk naked for about 50 metres along the lane outside the house. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media. After the father’s complaint, police registered a case under several Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections, including attempt to murder, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation and kidnapping. The girl’s father, mother and uncle have been arrested, and raids continue for other accomplices. All three victims, who have been medically examined, say they were threatened with a firearm, which police have yet to recover. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and questioning eyewitnesses.

A young child was killed after being hit by a speeding Scorpio in Sanchore city of Rajasthan’s Jalore district on September 25. According to reports, the child, a resident of Indira Colony, had accompanied family members to a shop at around 10:15 am. While playing, the child suddenly moved onto the road and was struck by the speeding SUV. The impact left the child seriously injured. Family members rushed the child to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced. The video shows the child moving towards the road while two women can be seen running behind him, apparently trying to stop him. Moments later, the Scorpio hits the child before fleeing the spot. Police reached the location after being alerted and began an investigation. Officials are examining the CCTV footage to identify the vehicle and trace the driver, who fled the scene after the accident.

Hyderabad: Angry supporters of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) disrupted a show of standup comidian Sarat Uday in Bengaluru and verbally abused the Hyderabad-based artist in the middle of his performance over jokes cracked on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu over two years ago. Despite Sarat apologising earlier, the miscreants still forced him to issue another apology in front of the audience. The incident took place at Koramangala in Bengaluru on Saturday, April 25, around 7 pm and the entire incident was captured in a video. According to Sarat, the miscreants disrupted his show almost immediately after he began. A man from the audience first arrived and said, “I’m your fan, you do comedy very well. But in one show, you insulted our leader." Soon, he was joined by two more people, who began to threaten Sarat, following which a group of five or six people also walked in and ganged up on the comedian. Sarat told them that he had already apologised for those jokes, but the TDP supporters demanded a new apology and started to abuse him verbally.

A dispute between two minor students over an exam paper at Narayana Junior College’s Santoshnagar branch escalated into a group clash in Hyderabad’s Old City. One student, Syed Noman, was allegedly attacked by a group of youths at Indo-English 7B ground and sustained serious injuries. Ayush Malik, a Shamli district resident who had converted to Islam for the woman he was in a relationship with, has returned to Hinduism amid an ongoing criminal case linked to the conversion, saying he took the decision after seeing the distress it had caused his parents. A video circulating on social media purportedly shows Malik, in his 20s, performing Hindu rituals at his residence along with his parents, even as the police probe into his conversion continues. In the video, he says he had embraced Islam for the woman he loved but has now decided to return to Hinduism after seeing how much pain his move had caused his family. He is also seen apologising to his parents and speaking emotionally about staying with them.

Tension prevailed at Mehdipatnam on Friday, October 16, after eggs were found scattered across the premises and on the gopuram of Sri Kanaka Durga Temple, near Arvind Hospital and Pulla Reddy College, during the ongoing Navaratri celebrations. Police were deployed at the temple as the incident triggered concern among devotees and members of Hindu organisations. According to the Sri Kanaka Durga Seva Samithi, the incident occurred on Thursday, October 15, evening, when devotees were participating in a religious programme at the temple. A former Tech Mahindra employee staged a silent protest on Thursday, July 23, outside her office in Hyderabad's Raidurgam, accusing her employer of alleged workplace harassment. Bhavana says she joined Tech Mahindra around five months ago. After completing training, she fell extremely sick. In June, she applied for a 13-day sick leave because of her deteriorating health. However, despite informing the company about her health condition, she claimed she was repeatedly pressured to resume work. "I received a warning letter in the most inappropriate language," she said. She rejoined the company but faced a humiliating experience from her supervisors who frequently questioned her movements, even when she wanted to use the washroom. "I have never experienced such treatment in any organisation," she said. The software engineer alleged she was eventually terminated from her job in "violation of labour laws." She has filed a police complaint accusing the company of workplace harassment and unlawful termination.

A man died by suicide in Hyderabad's Jalpally after allegedly being harassed by a financier over loan repayment on August 31, his body was found on Thursday, September 3. The deceased was identified as Mohammed Rashed Razvi, a resident of Misrigunj. According to the deceased’s family, Rashed recorded a self-video on August 31 in which he allegedly said that he was being harassed by a financier, identified as Zaker. Though the victim had reportedly repaid the amount borrowed from him, Zaker was allegedly demanding another Rs 5 lakh. Soon after recording the video, Rashed reportedly jumped into Jalpally Talab under the Pahadi Shareef police station limits. The family informed the police, following which the NDRF was alerted to search. As it was night, the search could not immediately recover the body. The body surfaced after remaining submerged for three days and was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination. The family has alleged that efforts were being made to attribute the death to financial difficulties arising from a loan taken from Muthoot Finance. However, they maintained that Rashed’s self-recorded video specifically named Zaker and referred to alleged harassment. Speaking to the Pahadishareef police said, " The incident occurred on August 31, and a missing complaint was filed with the Shahali Banda Police Station. However, the body surfaced in the Japally Tank in Pahadi Shareef Police limits on Thursday." A case of suspicious death has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Millions of young Indians dream of joining the Indian Civil Services. Only a few make it. Adiba Ahmed is one of the few to clear the UPSC. Her achievement is even more special - she becomes the first Muslim woman from Maharashtra to clear the exams. Adiba Ahmed may not have topped the chart, but she is over the moon for clearing what is India's toughest examination for government services. Daughter of an auto driver and a homemaker, this was Adiba's third attempt. Hailing from the Yavatmal district of Maharashtra, she is ranked 142nd across the country, bringing joy among her modest-income family and friends. Her success was not smooth. Her family lives in a rented home. She mentions that achieving such a feat in a patriarchal society was not easy. "This is my third try. After my first unsuccessful attempt, I felt discouraged. Many a time, I felt I was not fit for the civil services. Sometimes, we are faced with difficulties, and it pulls us down from achieving our dreams. The same happened with me. But my family, especially my parents, stayed with me like two pillars throughout this journey of ups and downs," she said.
