28th February 2018 ❄️❄️❄️ Disturbing this was 8 years ago at height of Beast from the East. London Docklands felt like it was transported into a snow ball. The afternoon high was -3C just a totally remarkable event on eve of spring, something I’ll never forget.

This rain band is advancing much slower east than original model forecasts suggested. Coming up against a weak block in E/NE Europe. If the near continent was cold this would be producing snowfall into SE with SE’ly wind a thaw would have quickly followed with wind veering westerly.

The high pollution levels today appear to largely originate from Germany and Poland, both countries large consumers of coal. Easterly winds in recent days have transported it westwards. Germany’s decision to close all nuclear plants is worsening air quality all over Europe. Thanks Germany! Cleaner Arctic air will arrive tomorrow….

As expected a complex of thunderstorms are firing up in NW France. Will become clearer in next few hours but good confidence counties like Kent & Sussex are in for a thundery treat tonight. With conditions in extreme SE supporting severe weather.
