Rufai Oseni, since you like the word “EMPIRICAL,” let us apply some empirical journalism to your own broadcast. You dusted off a 2021 clip involving abikedabiri Dabiri-Erewa and David Hundeyin over the tragic Itunu Babalola case and presented the dramatic portion as though Abike simply ran away from the questions. But why not PLAY THE REST OF THE EXCHANGE? Abike DID respond. She explained NIDCOM’s position and the actions the commission said had been taken. David Hundeyin disagreed with her explanation and challenged her. That is a completely different picture from suggesting there was no answer at all. You are perfectly entitled to believe her explanation was inadequate. Hundeyin was entitled to challenge it. Nigerians are entitled to judge both sides. But journalism does not mean cutting the tape exactly where your preferred narrative becomes most dramatic. And the documentary record is there: NIDCOM publicly stated that its investigation concluded Itunu had been wrongfully incarcerated, that Nigerian mission officials went to Bondoukou, and that efforts were being made through the appeal process. Following her death, Dabiri-Erewa demanded further investigation and an autopsy. So, Rufai, where is the EMPIRICAL CONTEXT? If you want to reopen a 2021 controversy in 2026, fine. But bring the whole file, not a half-baked clip. You constantly demand evidence, context and accountability from everybody else. Those same standards must apply inside the Arise TV studio. Selective footage is not empirical journalism. If your argument survives only when the audience is prevented from hearing the other half of the conversation, perhaps the problem is not Abike’s answer. Perhaps the problem is the edit.
