The parks of Salt Lake City are full of meth and spice addicts. They are not safe for kids nor women and a new pickelball court is not going to fix that. Mayor Erin Mendenhall fails every day to provide basic public safety. And every day the state drags its feet on the homeless campus we lose two more addicts to overdoses. I hope the state of Utah will reconsider its relationship with Catholic Charities as it overhauls its homelessness programs. This is at the Catholic Charities facility in downtown Salt Lake City. On their property, they allow addicts to smoke meth and fentanyl as long as they do it underneath a jacket. In this video, the addict comes out from underneath the jacket to clean his pipe or spoon, reload, and go back under the jacket to continue getting high. And then this repeats again. After Jesus healed the sick, there was an admonition to go and sin no more. That grace was a springboard to transformation. However, the grace that Catholic Charities offers has become a quicksand of dependency. This approach will never solve the problem. It pains me to write this all as a Catholic. But it needs to be said. This is not what a life affirming ministry looks like to me.
