Training camp just started and JJ McCarthy is already a problem for the 1st-team defense. Sam Darnold’s days as QB1 are numbered.

This play from RJ Harvey’s NFL debut is a really good encapsulation of the best of his UCF tape — vision, feel, adaptable, slippery in traffic, NAS button through creases, sets defenders up to fail in space, and good ol’ fashioned 4.40 wheels

I am once again begging Colin Cowherd to actually watch JJ McCarthy play football before commenting further on his game.

He’s still talking about Greg Cosell’s pre-draft scouting report. The reason what he’s hearing runs counter to that is Cosell’s scouting report didn’t describe JJ’s game at all. When it’s proven wrong, CC will say he trusted the wrong person, and he’ll talk about something else.

This is the news report on McCarthy that actually matters — what the coaches are seeing on the field.

Dianna Russini broke Kwesi’s firing. With a paternity leave anecdote she walked back after backlash, clarifying Vikings were supportive. Last spring she pushed Rodgers to MN while trashing a 22-year-old who hadnt taken a snap. She had a goldmine Vikings source. Any guesses?

It’s unclear how interested Kevin O’Connell is in developing JJ McCarthy, but there is no question he was behind McCarthy’s selection. Sean McVay knew that before the card was submitted, and got it reaffirmed when he called KOC in an attempt to trade up (Rams wanted Bowers).

As a frosh, JJ wore this blue-collar shirt to MSU game ~ UM lost 37-33 (JJ was 3/4 w/ TD as QB2) 2 yrs later, JJ wore it to start vs MSU saying he didnt want to live in fear Michigan won 49-0, later won natty Symbolic fit in today’s return to Michigan

NFL's youngest QB1 on the road in primetime in his NFL debut off a 600+ day layoff without one of the NFL's best LTs and a banged-up, slapped-together receiving corps. All the kid does is win.

JJ McCarthy’s 13-yard TD pass to Justin Jefferson that began the 4Q comeback was a missile into a tight window. The throw was even more impressive than it appeared to be on the broadcast. Watch this.

Then-Rams OC Kevin O’Connell talking about John Wolford ahead of Wolford’s first career start in late-2020. This move makes sense. Vikings only had two QBs on the roster, both inexperienced — Wolford is an old-hand in the system who won’t require extra time to get up to speed.

JJ McCarthy’s tape is dotted with dimes. He was one of the nation’s best on 3rd-and-long and 4th down by the numbers. He did it without an awesome WR corps, and in a pro-style offense that didn’t give him empty-calorie stats. His game will translate.
