I called him yesterday, first of all to congratulate him for the incredible job that he's done with Bournemouth. I wasn't at 100%. “To help this team out, no way I was missing a quarter-final to try and get to a semi-final. I was well enough to be able to go out there and play tonight, just a little illness and I'm over it now. So, yeah, on to Sunday. Reporter: Do you take that upon yourself because the likes of Martin [Odegaard] and Bukayo [Saka] and Jurrien [Timber] are out at the moment and you see yourself obviously as a big leader on this team?” Rice: “Yeah, definitely. I think we want them players back. We need them back. Arteta says Football has evolved and unless they change rules it won't change: 🗣️ “I was really upset the way we (Arsenal) conceded a goal against Chelsea. And Chelsea, look, the quality that they have, the amount of set-piece they scored. “Manchester United, they're doing so well. The same, I was at Man City, used to work a lot on them. So it's something. “There are phases, and there are moments when a team has an opportunity to do certain things and the game is evolving, and the game is becoming more and more difficult. “Before, when you used to do a game plan and you just invert a full-back and bring an extra player in midfield or a false nine, opponents are finished. Big overload. 4v3 inside, 2v1 inside, time on the ball. So dominant 78% of possession, the other opponent two counterattacks, set pieces, the game is done now. “Teams are adapting, teams know, after every sequence of play, whether it's a throw-in, a restart of play, an open-page situation, after direct play, exactly what they have to do. “And everything is almost man-to-man. So it's going to be a different game unless we change the rules, because the evolution of the game is that.”

Arteta was asked if it’s intentional that he waited this long to play Myles Lewis-Skelly in midfield: “No, it wasn't the intention. I don't know why we provoked an opponent. It wasn't. It's just the feeling. And I think I've been tough on him. and he's been very, very persistent and consistent in his behaviours and in the manner that he's been knocking on the door constantly to earn the right to play. I think he deserves it and that's why he played.”

Arteta on balancing Crystal Palace and PSG: “Well, we had 48 hours to enjoy the success of winning the league.
