In 1984, former Corporal Denis Lortie, a man in the Canadian Forces, took control of The National Assembly in Quebec City with a submachine gun. He opened fire on the staff of the building, killing 3 and wounding 14. After sitting in the speaker’s chair, he was talked down by a man named Rene Marc Jalbert, the Sergeant-at-Arms of the assembly. Jalbert he managed to convince Lottie to surrender into police custody. Lottie was convicted & sentenced to life imprisonment with no parole for ten years.
