Joined the Global Risk Institute's 2026 Summit to talk about how the world has changed. For much of my career, I thought about risk from the perspective of a banker. Today, I think about it from the perspective of a country. The perspective of a Canadian who knows this is the best country in the world, and it can still get better. The scale is different, but the principles are not: build optionality, avoid concentration, invest in productive assets, and never assume that the conditions that prevailed yesterday will prevail tomorrow. Canada cannot control the rupture happening around us. But we can control our response, and we can build an economy that is not simply capable of surviving the next shock, but positioned to seize the opportunities that come with it. That is the opportunity in front of us. I am confident we can, and will, seize it. 🇨🇦

If Canada wants to be an energy superpower, we need to be trading our energy and natural resources with one of the world’s largest energy markets: India. That’s why, this week, I’m in India for trip of firsts: Canada’s first federal ministerial presence at India Energy Week and the first Canada–India energy dialogue in eight years 🇨🇦🇮🇳 As major projects are being built at home, we’re building relationships abroad that will allow us to sell our products worldwide and carve out a new path for a stronger, more sovereign Canada.

We promised One Canadian Economy by Canada Day—and we’re working to deliver. Once passed, the One Canadian Economy Bill will: - Dismantle internal trade barriers - Kick-start major projects - Advance economic reconciliation Learn more from my colleague, Minister Gull-Masty (Mandy Gull Masty) about how by strengthening and uniting provincial, territorial, and Indigenous economies, we all rise together.

Carbon capture isn’t new — but Canadian innovation is making it work at scale 🇨🇦 In Glacier, Alberta, about 500 km northwest of Calgary, Entropy is deploying a cutting-edge carbon capture system, already capturing emissions at Advantage Energy’s Glacier Gas Plant. This achievement — combining cost, efficiency, commercial deployment and federal backing through the Canada Growth Fund — is a world first. And it’s only the beginning: a Phase 2 expansion is underway that will nearly offset all of the Glacier Plant’s CO₂ emissions. Watch how Entropy’s breakthrough solvent system works and see Canadian innovation in action 👇

We used to build big things in this country, and we used to build them quickly. 🏗️ But today, the construction of major infrastructure is stalled by inefficient approval processes. It's time to turbo-charge and connect our economy to the world, diversify our products and markets, and create thousands of new jobs for Canadians. It's time to build. That's why, yesterday, we announced the first tranche of projects we are referring to the Major Projects Office. Read more below🧵

Today, I launched the Canada Critical Minerals Accelerator — our new $2B fund to get critical minerals projects built faster. The Accelerator’s first move is an injection of $400m and a potential offtake in Teck's Trail Operations in B.C. Trail is expanding to produce more of the germanium, antimony and gallium Canada and the world needs for defence, manufacturing, and clean energy. This is smart public investment that will pay returns for Canadians. Let's get building. 🇨🇦

The time for talking is over. It’s time for action. That’s why, at this year’s G7 Energy & Environment Ministerial, Canada launched 25 brand new deals with our allies. This represents $6.4B in critical mineral projects that will power clean technology, advanced manufacturing, and modern defence. Together, our G7 allies are turning reliance into alliance — and we’re just getting started 🇨🇦

Critical minerals are the pillars of our economy and national security in the 21st-century. That’s why we’re using the Defence Production Act to designate them as essential to Canada’s national defence and interests. This designation allows Canada to move faster to secure supply chains, build strategic stockpiles, and strengthen our economic and defence resilience for decades to come. This is how we lead, how we support industry, and how we build a more sovereign and resilient Canada in an increasingly volatile world.

Poland is getting ready for a major nuclear build-out. But they aren't just looking for technology — they're looking for a strategic partner. I’m in Warsaw today with Canadian industry to launch a bid for Team Canada CANDU nuclear technology to be the foundation of that partnership. At a time of geopolitical instability, the value of CANDU has never been clearer: energy security, resilient supply chains, and deeper bilateral energy collaboration with a NATO ally.
