I was in Madison Square Garden to witness the Rangers win the Stanley Cup in 1996. I was at Shea Stadium in 1969 and in 1986 to see the Mets win the World Series. I have been blessed beyond words to see sports magic happen live. What I witnessed on Wednesday night from the back row of the Garden was miraculous….absolute magic that will live in my heart forever. To be able to share that with my two sons and daughter in law was beyond beautiful because I was able to watch them experience something I have known in my soul since my 11th birthday on October 16th 1969. Everything is possible. Dream big. Never give up hope. Believe in the impossible and make it happen. Go Knicks. You are a team for the ages.

In 2008 I was asked to give the keynote speech at the National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas. The organizers read my speech the night before, and after doing so, told me it wasn’t appropriate, forbid me from doing it, and hastily arranged an interview format with David Bianculli instead. I was a bit pissed off but I admired David and was about to comply with the organizers wishes when a couple of voices in the audience yelled “Do the speech!” and “Free speech!” and we were off to the races. The organizers had cameras there to document the interview but told me afterwards that when I started the speech, they had turned the cameras off. Not sure if that was true but luckily, a couple of cell phone cameras were rolling and recently we have tracked down those clips and edited them together. This unsanctioned speech will be the inaugural offering in the category of Rabble Rousing, at when the website debuts on September 1st.
