🚨BREAKING: Nationwide outrage is exploding after a known violent career criminal with a lengthy rap sheet killed 21-year-old U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Daniel Montano in a brutal stabbing in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina. Daniel Montano, a 21-year-old Marine assigned to the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines at Camp Lejeune, was in the Wilmington area when the incident occurred around 2:00 AM on Sunday, April 5th (Easter weekend). According to police reports, officers responded to multiple fights in the 100 block of North Front Street. Montano was stabbed in the neck during the chaos and suffered fatal injuries. Despite emergency medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Another person was also injured in the same disturbance, while a separate unrelated stabbing was reported in the area that night. The suspect, Davy Spencer, a 47-year-old Wilmington resident, was arrested after a five-day investigation. He now faces charges including second-degree murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Spencer has an extensive criminal history that includes multiple felonies and violent offenses. He was previously designated a habitual felon in 2015–2016 after convictions for cocaine and heroin trafficking, for which he served approximately 117 months in prison. Despite this long record, he was back on the streets — raising serious questions about repeated releases by judges and the justice system. A memorial has been set up at the corner of Front and Princess streets with American flags, and the Montano family has launched a fundraiser to cover funeral expenses. This tragic killing has sparked widespread public anger, with many pointing to failures in the criminal justice system that allow repeat violent offenders to remain free. What do you think? Should the bail and sentencing system be significantly reformed to keep violent career criminals with long records locked up — especially those with dozens of prior charges? Or is the problem deeper, involving broader issues like drug policy, urban crime, and judicial accountability? Feel free to share your thoughts and let’s discuss it openly and honestly.
