Actually ended up restoring this original version of the "Bond, James Bond" line to the film when I did a Diamonds Are Forever recut a few years ago! I agree that the trailer delivery is much better, and I genuinely have no idea why they edited it for the final film...

Throughout The Man with the Golden Gun, John Barry gives Scaramanga a menacing, low piano theme (the "his eye may be..." part of the title song) But in the climactic fun house sequence, it's now the Bond theme being played on the low piano - with Scaramanga the one being hunted

If the Brosnan Bond era has an overall theme, it's villains' personal narratives and the perception of truth in a world increasingly obfuscated by technology I'm not sure contemporary audiences fully appreciated its relevance but it's why the era still holds up so well for me!
