HOLD ON TO YOUR WALLETS! We're already over budget for 2026 by hundreds of millions of dollars and we haven't even began discussing how to address that. Now comes a surprise announcement from Judge Lina Hidalgo that she wants to raise taxes AGAIN. I'll call this one the "Titanic Tax" where it's just the tip of the iceberg. This program was started using funds from COVID/ARPA money and four years ago I predicted that when that money ran out, we'd be asked to keep funding these programs that would cost Harris County residents millions and millions of dollars. Over the next few weeks I will continue to update you on how Harris County has a spending problem, not a revenue problem and how you will be asked to pay even more and contribute to wasteful spending. $115 Million short for flood control - this year. Under the leadership of our County Administrator, who pockets over $400k per year in salary, we have once again discovered that we are short hundreds of millions of dollars to complete flood control projects. When this position was suggested by the County Judge and others, our first County Administrator said this about why the position was needed: "..And when you look at problems like flooding and public health, these are problems that are pretty hard to tackle when you have 20 different county departments reporting up to five different people — which can become a pretty unwieldy structure. So, I think Judge Lina Hidalgo and other members of commissioners court felt some urgency to formalize the role of the budget office that had been longstanding and to modernize the organizational structure." The problems seem to be getting worse since then, not better.

Appointing a candidate to the office they are currently seeking seems to be a blatant advantage. Despite my vote against it, Commissioners Court has once again undermined the trust of Harris County residents. Ultimately, the voters—not the Court—will decide our next County Attorney this November.
