BARTLETT: "We are told. I mean, that's the sort of central idea once you leave university—is to figure out how quickly you can get a mortgage or buy a house." FRIEDBERG: "Great lie. It's one of the great lies. And there's a lot of countries where people have been able to accumulate capital and jump that ravine from labor to capital much more quickly when they don't buy a house because they can invest in stuff. They can buy, you know, the S&P 500, which you can just buy on an E-Trade or Robinhood account, and you can just own it; on average, it will make you 10-11% a year. You just put your money in that, you're making 10-11% a year, and it can go up every year, and you don't have to pay taxes. You don't have to pay property tax. You don't have to pay insurance. You don't have to deal with repairs and maintenance. All that sort of stuff. So, a lot of people would have been better off, depending on the markets that they're in. There's some markets that ballooned, but a lot of people would have been better off over the last 30 years actually owning the S&P 500 than owning their home and paying for the rent on a home."

Former Navy SEAL reveals the one skill that gives water polo players a huge advantage in SEAL training MRBALLEN: "There's two places where the most mentally tough people, in terms of success in SEAL training. One is wrestling, basically any level of wrestling. Wrestlers have an incredibly high success rate in BUD/S and water polo. Those are the two that they have determined through their studies are the grittiest, most resilient folks when it comes to SEAL training. And one of the guys that was one of my officers in one of the classes I was in was a water polo player from the University of Tennessee. And he's this big, big, strong guy. This water polo player, he blazes through that test, no problem. The other test is just the tread. That's all it's called, the tread. You spend five minutes in the pool with your twin 80 tanks on, which are neutral in the water. They're pretty heavy outside of the water, but they're cumbersome on your back. You got no fins. You got a weight belt on, hands up out of the water. Yeah, it's like five pounds or something. And you tread for five minutes. And that's the whole test. Hands out of the water so you only tread with your legs, no fins, tanks on. The only way to do it realistically is imagine hopping on a bike in the gym and just sprinting until you have full muscle fatigue, hold it for like three, four minutes. It doesn't even need to go that fast, but it's constant. That's the only way to do it." "Unless you're an exceptionally talented water polo player who's mastered the art of the egg beater, where they basically have found a way to move their legs. That's like the most efficient way to tread water. And this dude, I kid you not, who blazed through pool comp first try, no problems whatsoever, was like joking around after his test. He gets in for the tread and he could hold himself almost to his belly button, probably like nipple to belly button line, fully out of the water. Just no problem. Like practically smiling because he knows this is my domain. I can do this all day long. It was the most incredible thing I'd ever seen." ROGAN: "That's crazy. I would have never thought of that. First of all, I didn't know the water polo players had to tread the entire time, which is insanely impressive. Like, how long is the game?" One of the things that worries me is that I want humans to be a multiplanetary species. I want us to go to Mars and set up a colony. I love humanity, and I want it to continue. The problem with space travel that I have, and again, I've not heard a satisfactory solution to it, is that when we're outside of the Earth's gravity, our genes—our actual DNA—seems to not function as well when it's not in Earth-style gravity. Which makes sense, right? We developed in these conditions with this gravity. Whenever you have somebody who goes to the International Space Station for three months or six months, they come back and they are totally jacked up because, literally, the cells in their body are starting to discombobulate in response to a low-gravity environment. We have to figure out a solution to that problem. That, to me, is sort of the most interesting part of space travel, of going to Mars or setting up a colony on another planet. If you set up a colony on Mars, and it takes you two years to get there and two years to get back, in that time, you've gone from a functioning, healthy adult to dead if you're in space for four years. That part of space travel is very fascinating to me, and I don't know that I've heard any satisfactory solution to it yet."

Joe Rogan: "We had a guy in the studio that cut a guy's head off after the podcast." "So, there's work that I do with my friend Josh Dubin. He used to work for the Innocence Project and now he works for the Ike Perlmutter Center for Legal Justice, and it's all wrongly incarcerated people and getting them out of jail, and he spends an incredible amount of his own resources helping people. And through this podcast, a bunch of people have been released. So he wanted to do a podcast episode where he had one of the guys who had been in prison. He was guilty, but he had been given an extraordinarily long sentence and it was wrong. And he comes on and he tells about his experience and he got released early, but he did like 25 years in jail for I believe it was something along the lines of drug dealing and maybe some sort of an assault, but 25 years of his life when he was a young kid. He does the podcast and then afterwards goes and visits this guy that apparently he had a beef with, kills him, cuts his head off, puts him in a soup, like puts a wig on, tries to escape in the hallway like through the cameras. I guess he doesn't understand HD cameras because they haven't been around for 25 years. You know, he's sitting right there, couple weeks later cutting a guy's head off."
