Kyrie Irving seems bemused by Mavs’ traditional post-shootaround ritual.

Papa Doncic to the Lakers locker room.

Nice of GG Jackson to come over wish Lively well.

Thread: After I arrived in Lubbock last night, Matt Dowdy was kind enough to give me a private tour of Texas Tech Football facilities, which are, in a word, Wowzer. A few highlights, starting with the balcony view from the coaches’ offices.

New look Mavs training facility: Windows!

Mark Cuban often has told me his favorite part about owning the Mavericks is that he can get up shots in American Airlines Center whenever he wants. Tonight he’s doing so for the last time as majority owner.

To kick off National Mental Health Awareness Month, Dak Prescott is here at Aledo High School to greet students and spread a message of healing through action, purpose and unity. Prescott’s brother, Jace, died by suicide on April 23, 2020.

Tough sight for Mavs, Gafford being helped off the court, can’t put weight on his leg. Gafford’s right leg buckled as he went to set a screen. He grabbed his right knee in obvious pain.

Sam Perkins, ladies and gentlemen.

Thread: A week ago, as the Mavs (and I) prepared to travel to LA, I met the dog I’d long presumed as the pet of assistant trainer Heather Mau. Actually it was Bailey who ventured over to meet me. Don’t judge me for greeting her in baby talk. Heather asked “Do you have a dog?”

A thread: Yesterday, Dallas Morning News got an exclusive 2-hour look at the $140M Cotton Bowl renovations. A few of the glimpses, starting with one of 7 grab-and-go concessions additions.

Luka Doncic takes the court and immediately spots a VIP and friend across the court . . .

Outstanding to see former Maverick Shawn Bradley and his wife Carrie. Had a nice visit. He comes to one or 2 home games per year. Here’s he’s visiting with ex-Mavs teammate and current Mavs assistant Popeye Jones.

At the end of what might be his last pregame media availability, Gregg Popovich asked if any of the reporters had brought guns into the arena, then had so e things to say about lack of gun control regulation in Tennessee and, well, everywhere in the U.S.

Dirk had 21 season-opening events as a player, but none quite like this. He seemed genuinely blown away. Also nice seeing him in a Mavs-logo polo.

It’s official: Mavs are prepping for the Spurs, specifically 7-4 rookie Victor Wembanyama, with God Shammgod playing the role of Wemby. “Wemby! Wemby” he hollered while going out to defend Irving with his artificial Wemby length.

Tod Martin, AT&T Stadium’s general manager, is the genius who came up with the system to hang the Grow Lights from the rafters instead of rolling them in on wheels. He’s an A&M grad. I asked if this is a case of Aggie ingenuity. He smiled and said “You could say that.”

Irving with an eloquent answer when asked to compare other great forwards he’s played with to Cooper Flagg and their potential as a duo.

Kyrie Irving, who won gold as a member of the 2016 Team USA in Rio, on being left off the ‘24 team after being listed as a finalist.

The Kyrie Irving-requested walk-in sauna.

Here at the Las Vegas Sands-owned and operated The Venetian Arena, where the Mavericks are scheduled to start practice in a few minutes. The team has this afternoon off and many players are taking an excursion to Hong Kong.

Jason Kidd on the incomparable Dwain Price, who on March 7 will be inducted into the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame as part of its 14-member Class of 2026.

Mark Cuban speaks.

Speaking of the great Don Nelson, here’s some of the conversation a few of us reporters had with him earlier tonight at Gilley’s Dallas.

Maxi Kleber describes his emotions when he learned he and Doncic and Morris were traded.

Isiah Thomas shares a story about why the Mavericks chose Mark Aguirre, not Thomas, No. 1 overall in 1981 . . . Stay for the part where Thomas thanks Dallas and the Mavericks.

As you can see, the streets around Andrew Cove are icy, but there’s a sand truck circling the arena. I’ve seen it make multiple passes through these streets adjacent to the arena.

To say the Aledo HS kids are shocked and thrilled to be greeted by Prescott is a massive understatement.
