Long thread on what we saw today out of Beijing. We can start off where they showed off the revamped nuclear triad. DF61 & 31BJ from ground + DF-5C new silo ICBM JL-3 from 094 submarines & JL-1 from H-6N i don't care much abt nukes, so this is more for the DC policy makers.

Reminder that Chinese drone support for both countries are restricted to dual use components. If China actually supplied drone swarm combat system like this "Atlas" platform, it would be able to fire 96 drones that coordinate each other per 2 vehicle team. 3 sec/launch & each have their own role. Just need 1 tech personnel to control 96 drones. Light, long endurance & can be folded & installed into small tubes. Can install different payloads.

This is BYD starting phase 5, 6, 7 & 8 out of its expansion in Zhengzhou at the same time. Built next to Zhengzhou land port. Just watch the number of construction & engineering vehicles + the raw size of this area. BYD's scale & ability to build up massive factories is quite mind blowing. The existing real estate is already larger than any Tesla Gigafactory & this expansion makes the existing plant look small. What will BYD be building here? Will it be hiring all the workers that get displaced from Foxconn factory nearby? What a company.

While most Vietnam visitors into China are probably checking out Yunnan via train, this seem to be spreading to Shanghai also. Shanghai has long been China's 1st stop for many foreign visitors. A lot of Japanese, Korean & Russians. I wonder if Shanghai will become for ASEAN countries what Miami is for Latin American countries. Basically, a metropolis that not only shapes nearby areas but the entire region from cultural & social trends & such. If you have ever been to South America, you'd see that a lot of local elites have connections to Miami. They like to compare wealthy & nicer part of their cities to Miami. People w/ money buy homes in Miami. And business open their US branch in Brickell. If there is 1 city in China that could probably have that kind of magnetism for surrounding Asian population, that would be Shanghai. Shenzhen is more technologically advanced, but ppl are workaholics. Beijing is too political & far north. Chongqing is too inland & probably not as fashionable. Shanghai checks all the boxes.

China now has the problem where it doesn't have enough unrecycled garbage for all the waste-to-energy plant that came up recently. Ppl are digging up old buried trash & buying them. AI finds all the garbage w/ value & separate them. It does this job far more efficiently & better than human workers. Remaining trash is burnt up for power & sent them to flying ash treatment. Over time, waste separating center will be able to find use for greater % of waste -> less left for burning. All the old buried trash will eventually be used up. And then, China's overcapacity in trash treatment can finally result in some plant closures.

Typical MUMT in PLA. Wide usage of FPVs in ISR & attack role + the unit's own R&D where they use available parts to put together FPVs - uses advanced sensors like laser targeting. They have access to the best supply chain, but battlefield innovations are happening @ unit level.

Optical fiber is another huge constraint in AI DC expansion. YOFC is the mkt leader here, while Corning is the biggest player in US mkt. in Q1, China's sales here grew 35% YoY w/ oversea orders growing by 55% YoY. Demand is very high to North America & Southeast Asia. Suppliers fully booked until 2027Q1. Px for certain product up 650% YoY. In fact, supply is not coming online as fast as demand requires. Some major suppliers increasing product in 2026 includes HengTeng & Far East Smarter Energy. As AI DC go fully optical, demand for optical fiber grew exponentially. Note demand in SEA, where many American & Chinese big tech are building Data centers.

A 60kW Hybrid aero-engine by 天府轻动 had maiden flight in 2025/12. Similar to EREV, turbine does not directly propel the aircraft, but uses generator to charge battery -> electric duct fan provide the thrust for flight. AECC has showcased larger MW class hybrid propulsion in 2025, so expect this more efficient propulsion system to continue to scale up.

CCTV piece on J-11 series (China's Su-27) revealed importance of modern electronics in air combat. AESA upgrade in J-11BG from J-11B resulted in 50% longer detection range & 10x better ECCM compared mechanical radar. J-16 would take this up another notch by having all new plumbing that allows much greater power generation & cooling to support more powerful radar & processor unit. Aircraft that still relies on early 2000s electronics tech would have a real hard time against modern avionics. At the end of the day, detecting other side & avoid getting detected is the key. If your RF tech is significantly better, then it makes up gaps elsewhere. This is when PAF stations something like JF-17 block 3 in Saudi Arabia, it's a big deal. Aside from the new F-15s, RSAF does not have AESA equipped fighter jet to the best of my knowledge. AESA radar is a huge upgrade over mechanical radars. GaN radar is a huge upgrade over GaA radar. GaN-on-SiC is huge upgrade over GaN-on-Si radar. GaO-On-Diamond is a huge upgrade over GaN-on-SiC. Modern air combat is all about the RF tech, power/cooling and software involved.
