🧵 Millions of people across the UK, like Amanda, Kevin and Matt, are facing hunger. Despite living in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, 1 in 7 people in the UK face hunger due to a lack of money. But it doesn’t have to be this way for anyone.

🧵 Last year, food banks in our network distributed almost 3 million emergency food parcels. ❗ More than a million of these were for children. ❗ This is the most parcels our network have ever distributed in a year. ❗ It's a 120% increase compared to 5 years ago.

This week, Aston Villa footballer Jacob Ramsey volunteered at Aston & Nechells Foodbank! Food banks are facing their toughest winter yet, and Jacob helped the volunteers prepare emergency food parcels for people in the local community. Can you help your local food bank too? 💚

🚨 1.5 MILLION emergency food parcels were provided by food banks in our network between April and September. This is the highest number of parcels our network has ever distributed in 6 months. And this is likely to get worse – unless the government steps up to make change. ⤵️

🧵 We live in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, and yet people in the UK are going without the essentials we all need to get by. We can’t always deal with what life throws at us on our own, and we need a system in place that supports us all. ⤵️

When donating to a food bank, many of us may think of giving pasta or tinned food. 🥫 Though this food is appreciated, our food banks are also in need of some more unexpected, but essential items. Here's six unexpected things you can donate to your local food bank ⤵️

🚨 Food banks in our network provided a record number of emergency food parcels last year. But how many was it? 🎤 We asked the public if they could guess - and what they think needs to change to create a future where no one needs emergency food to survive.

Siobhan had to quit her job to become a full-time carer for her dad. They were both left with no income, and had no option but to turn to a food bank for support. Siobhan shared her story - and spoke about what needs to change to end hunger in the UK. 💚

It’s not right that the cost of photo ID can stop people from voting. BUT you can apply for a free version – a Voter Authority Certificate. You just need to do it soon! Apply by 5pm on 26 June 👉
