😳.Indygo estimates the Marion County transit income tax deducted from workers’ paychecks will generate $83.8 million in 2027. Yet only 1.3% of Marion County workers commute by public transit. It’s time for Indianapolis City-County Council to let voters decide whether to keep or repeal this tax at the ballot box.⏰

I took my first trip on an IndyGo bus today. I will say this about IndyGo staff: every employee I encountered provided top-notch customer service. Their app was not working properly, and staff looked into it, recognized something was wrong, and understood it wasn’t me trying to game the system. I was greeted each time I boarded a bus. That said, I was concerned by the ridership I observed. On one trip, there were never more than seven passengers onboard. At one point, only three of us were on the bus. A 40-foot bus can seat roughly 35–40 passengers, and riders generally pay $2.75 per trip. Ridership only pays for roughly 4% of IndyGo’s operating budget. We really need our federal, state, and city leaders to reevaluate how public transportation tax💰is doled out.

We’re in San Antonio on vacation. Outside the hotel, someone hacked a traffic sign. The The Alamo has heavy police presence. Civilians with AR-15-style rifles nearby. Texas National Guard standing by on charter buses. I can’t explore more. My wife won’t let me.
