I was joined by Nigeria’s legendary football stars, including Daniel Amokachi, Garba Lawal, Emmanuel Babayaro and other distinguished sports icons, on an inspection tour of the ongoing reconstruction of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium (ABS), Kaduna. We are rebuilding ABS as a modern, FIFA-standard sporting complex, anchored by a 33,000-capacity main bowl; more than twice its original 16,000 capacity, alongside a hybrid turf, the first of its kind in Nigeria, and other world-class facilities. The training pitches are complete, while work continues on the main bowl, ticketing points, media centre and athletes’ hostel. Our objective is larger than rebuilding a stadium. We are restoring Kaduna’s historic place at the heart of Nigerian sports; attracting major competitions; expanding opportunities for our young people; increasing internally generated revenue; and stimulating wider economic activity. We are also closing a 30-year chapter of an unfulfilled promise. The Atlanta 1996 Super Eagles were promised land and streets named in their honour. Our administration is now delivering on that commitment. Lands have been allocated to the legends, while streets across Kaduna State will bear their names. These football heroes elevated Nigeria’s name, inspired generations and left an indelible mark on the global game. They deserve not merely our applause, but enduring recognition. I reaffirmed that the reconstruction of ABS will be completed by November 2026, ready to host major local and international competitions. Kaduna is not merely rebuilding a stadium. I seized the opportunity provided by the Book Presentation and Launching of the Book "Gani Fawehinmi and the Nigerian Press" in Lagos to recall our long drawn out battle for expansion of democratic space in Nigeria. Chief Gani Fawehinmi, SAN, GCON, Alhaji MD Yusufu, Alhaji Balarabe Musa (all of blessed memory), my humble self, Lanre Banjo, and other comrades took the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to court for deregistering the National Conscience Party (NCP) and other political parties. A Federal High Court in Lagos ruled against us. The Court of Appeal ruled in our favour but the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) appealed the judgement. We eventually secured victory at the Supreme Court. That victory resulted in the expansion of the political space and the strengthening of our multiparty democracy.

I am very delighted, and deeply humbled, to share the tremendous impact our Free CNG Mass Transit Scheme has had on the lives of our people. The relief on their faces and the gratitude in their voices remind me that leadership must always ease the burdens of ordinary citizens. Our recent assessment shows over 1.4 million passengers transported between July and November, saving households ₦1.39 billion. These are school fees paid, food secured, businesses sustained, and thousands moving daily without transport anxiety. Across the three geopolitical zones, our 100 CNG buses and 200 bus stops now serve more than 18,000 residents each day. Moved by the experiences of the citizens, I am pleased to announce that the free rides will continue indefinitely.

The flag-off of our Healthcare Emergency Management System, KADSEMSAS, reaffirms our covenant with the people of Kaduna State; that no one will be left behind, whether a farmer in Ikara, a trader in Kachia, a student in Giwa, or a child in Kagarko. This milestone marks another vital step in our administration’s drive to build a resilient, inclusive, and equitable healthcare system that guarantees timely and life-saving care for everyone in Kaduna State. After over a decade of non-implementation, our administration have commenced the payment of the CONMESS and CONHESS salary structures which is among the highest in Nigeria, to better motivate and reward our hardworking doctors, nurses, midwives amongst others.
