𝗦𝗢𝗛𝗢 𝗦𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗠: 𝗙𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗟 𝗧𝗘𝗘𝗡𝗦 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗦𝗛 𝗣𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗘 𝗖𝗔𝗥 𝗔𝗧 𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗧𝗪𝗘𝗔𝗥 𝗦𝗧𝗨𝗡𝗧 🛍️ Soho descended into absolute carnage yesterday as thousands of teenagers swarmed the streets for a free clothing giveaway hosted by streetwear brands Poser London and Up in Flames. The event – hyped up on social media for weeks – only revealed its secret location on the morning of the drop, a tactic these brands have used before to generate hype. But this time, things got completely out of hand. Police were called at 12:09 PM after reports of a massive crowd forming. Officers arrived to find the situation escalating fast, with some of the so-called "fashion fans" jumping all over an unattended police vehicle, causing serious damage. 🚔 One boy, under 16, was allegedly arrested for: 🔸 Theft from a motor vehicle 🔸 Criminal damage 🔸 Affray A Section 35 Dispersal Order was put in place for the entire borough of Westminster until 11:59 PM, forcing the crowd to clear. Extra officers were also brought in for reassurance patrols. This isn’t the first time a streetwear stunt has caused mayhem, but it raises the same question – should brands take more responsibility? Sure, free clothes are nice, but at what cost? This was as reported by Harrow Online, but strangely, we’re not seeing it anywhere else in the news. A police car gets trashed in broad daylight in central London, and barely a whisper? 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝘂𝘀 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. Should these marketing stunts be better controlled, or is this just how things go when hype culture meets real life? 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮, 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 Panorama spent seven months undercover in the Met. We've cut all of that down to 59 seconds: the journalist admitting he saw countless police officers doing an excellent job in the toughest of circumstances. Because that’s the reality. Policing is about extraordinary individuals doing incredible work in impossible situations. The police are the public and the public are the police. They’re not higher beings. They’re people from every walk of life who put in an application for a job. Yes, it’s a job with huge responsibility, but it’s still drawn from the same pool of society as every other workforce. And that means you’ll see the good, the bad, and the ugly reflected within it. The best vetting in the world won’t tell you what someone might say when they’re in a pub with a journalist asking leading questions. Not that that excuses behaviour shown in the programme for one second. What was said was shameful and beneath the standards of any decent human being, let alone a police officer. But every time something like that is aired, it makes the job so much harder for everyone else who still has to walk out the door and put on the uniform the next day. And of course, what you’ll never see is a journalist spending seven months undercover just to show you the good. You won’t see them filming officers comforting victims of domestic violence, or taking a neglected child to McDonald’s because they haven’t eaten in days, or holding the hand of someone dying in a road traffic collision, or knocking on a door at 3am to tell a wife and children that daddy isn’t coming home. You won’t see them filming a van full of officers, young and old, big and small, driving at midnight into the middle of a pub fight, knowing full well they could be hurt but going anyway so that others don’t. That’s the reality of policing. And it’s worth remembering, whatever the headlines, that the vast majority are out there trying to do good in a world that doesn’t often want to see it. 𝗢𝗻𝗲-𝗠𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 – 𝟮𝟮 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗜𝘁 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 No shift is ever routine. No job even comes close. Policing carries a weight others can’t see – until they’re the ones staring down a blade or firebomb. On 31 January, 28-year-old Alexander Dighton turned up at Talbot Green Police Station, armed to the teeth. Molotov cocktail. Hatchet. Knife. Wooden pole. He wore body armour and came with intent. He tried to torch a police van. Smashed station windows. Stabbed a detective in the leg – narrowly missing his femoral artery. He punched another officer unconscious. A 50,000-volt Taser was fired – he shrugged it off and kept going. Today, he was sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum of 22 years, after pleading guilty to attempted murder, GBH with intent, attempted arson, and several other offences. The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed the attack had a terrorist connection, rooted in extremist anti-government views. Dighton had previously been referred to the Prevent programme. Chief Superintendent Stephen Jones praised the bravery and professionalism of officers who faced him down. “This could’ve been so much worse,” he said – and he’s right. It’s easy for the armchair critics to sneer. But this is the job. This is the risk. And every officer knows they could face it next. Watch the footage. This is real policing. Real courage. Real danger. Stay safe. Look out for each other. [Video: South Wales Police] #SouthWalesPolice #TalbotGreen #PoliceBravery #PoliceAttack #BodycamFootage #UKPolicing #UKCH #StaySafe
