Unfortunately, he couldn’t throw for toffee. After three failed attempts, and having clearly vastly overestimated his own throwing ability, he eventually managed to get it over the wall. Small problem: a prison officer saw it land and picked it up almost immediately. Smith was identified from the CCTV and, on 24 August 2026, was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison. Still, there may be a promising career as a delivery driver waiting for him when he gets out. Our thanks to Humberside Police for sharing the footage with us. Attempted bike theft in Southampton. Thieving shitbags with a cordless disc cutter tool - versus an angry man with a length of 2x4. Do we encourage this? No. You should always record them, shout at them, call the police etc. Getting an artery cut with a power tool is a one way ticket out of here. But do we love to see this? Yes! Sorry, but despite what people like to spout on Social Media, this is "reasonable force" in our humble opinion. There are multiple suspects and one of them is armed with a deadly weapon. It's a shame he didn't hit him harder. We'd never actively encourage this, but we will certainly applaud anyone who steps up. Who knows... if EVERYONE stepped up, maybe this sort of brazen criminality would decrease? 🤷🏻♂️ It's okay though! There will be cops back on every street corner soon enough! 😉

We've cut all of that down to 59 seconds: the journalist admitting he saw countless police officers doing an excellent job in the toughest of circumstances. Because that’s the reality. Policing is about extraordinary individuals doing incredible work in impossible situations. The police are the public and the public are the police. They’re not higher beings. They’re people from every walk of life who put in an application for a job. Yes, it’s a job with huge responsibility, but it’s still drawn from the same pool of society as every other workforce. And that means you’ll see the good, the bad, and the ugly reflected within it. The best vetting in the world won’t tell you what someone might say when they’re in a pub with a journalist asking leading questions. Not that that excuses behaviour shown in the programme for one second. What was said was shameful and beneath the standards of any decent human being, let alone a police officer. But every time something like that is aired, it makes the job so much harder for everyone else who still has to walk out the door and put on the uniform the next day. And of course, what you’ll never see is a journalist spending seven months undercover just to show you the good. You won’t see them filming officers comforting victims of domestic violence, or taking a neglected child to McDonald’s because they haven’t eaten in days, or holding the hand of someone dying in a road traffic collision, or knocking on a door at 3am to tell a wife and children that daddy isn’t coming home. You won’t see them filming a van full of officers, young and old, big and small, driving at midnight into the middle of a pub fight, knowing full well they could be hurt but going anyway so that others don’t. That’s the reality of policing. And it’s worth remembering, whatever the headlines, that the vast majority are out there trying to do good in a world that doesn’t often want to see it. ![Two unarmed officers in Tower Hamlets were thrown into a situation that most people would run a mile from. Called to check on a man who’d locked himself in his bedroom, they were calmly talking to him through the door when the unmistakable sound of a gun being cocked filled the air. Let that sink in for a second – a cocked gun, loaded and ready. A family member’s desperate warning followed: “Whatever you’re going to do, I suggest you don’t do that.” What happened next? The man opened the door, holding the gun. And one of these officers – completely unarmed – didn’t flinch. He ran straight at him, knocked him flat onto a bed, and pinned him down. His colleague was right behind him, grabbing the weapon and bringing the situation under control. Let’s not downplay this. This officer was staring at a cocked gun, and his instinct was to charge towards it. No hesitation, no second-guessing – just sheer bravery. If that doesn’t deserve recognition, I don’t know what does. Both officers have been commended, and they absolutely deserve it.
