Ethiopia’s FANO fighters from the 305th Corps ambushed an Ethiopian army convoy on the morning of September 1st in Tegede Woreda, part of the Welkait-Tegede-Setit Humera Zone in Ethiopia’s Amhara Region. The convoy, made up of five heavy military trucks, was heading from Qiraqir to Wef-Argif when it came under heavy fire near the village of Kokiya in Kaza Kebele. Several trucks veered off the narrow road and plunged into a deep ravine. The ambush and crashes left more than 106 government soldiers dead, among them Lieutenant Edris Abdela, commander of the army’s 7th Regiment. Sixty-five were killed in the initial firefight, while 50 critically wounded soldiers were rushed to nearby hospitals 40 of them later died of their injuries, and the remaining ten are fighting for their lives.
