Post-harvest loss continues to limit the income of smallholder farmers across Nigeria. To address this, Ebubechukwu developed Baza ng, a digital platform that links farmers to consumers, improving market access, reducing waste and strengthening the supply chain. By deploying field agents to onboard farmers from their communities, Baza ng helps ensure produce is visible, accessible and efficiently delivered. Ebube’s solution reflects a growing movement of youth-led innovation transforming agriculture from the ground up. Through the Young Africa Innovates Programme, she has gained mentorship, visibility and a network of peers shaping the future of agritech. The programme implemented by UNDP Nigeria in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation provides technical and financial support to young innovators solving real societal challenges.

Only 10% of Nigeria’s 2.5 million tons of annual plastic waste gets recycled. The rest? It clogs our drainage systems, pollutes our environment and threatens our health. But young innovators like Victoria Francis are changing that, starting from the streets of Akwa Ibom. Through Plastic Cultured, she and her team are turning collected waste into fuel, mattresses and plastic bins. Their innovation is about more than just recycling; it’s about creating jobs, protecting the environment and building cleaner communities for residents and tourists alike. Thanks to the Young Africa Innovates Programme, Victoria now has the support, mentorship and tools to scale her idea and push for a zero plastic waste culture across Nigeria. Being selected for the Young Africa Innovates Programme was a breakthrough for Daniel. For him, this meant access to mentorship, a network of fellow innovators and practical tools to scale what started as a passion into a real agribusiness. Through his enterprise Mayal Organics, Daniel works with local farmers to source produce, reduce post-harvest losses and create high-quality products like mushroom tea, flour meals and spice blends. His mission is twofold: tackle food insecurity and create jobs across Nigeria’s agricultural value chain. The programme, led by UNDP in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, is focused on identifying, incubating and investing in underrepresented youth with high-impact solutions.
