Israeli security forces forcibly displaced the entire Palestinian populations of three West Bank refugee camps early last year & are still preventing them from returning - in violation of international law, says a new UN Human Rights report. Volker Türk: “Israel must end its occupation of Palestinian territory and halt any efforts to forcibly displace more Palestinians and to further break the contiguity of a future Palestinian state.”

#Indonesia: We are following closely the spate of violence in the context of nationwide protests over parliamentary allowances, austerity measures, and alleged use of unnecessary or disproportionate force by security forces. We stress the importance of dialogue to address the public’s concerns. The authorities must uphold the rights to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression while maintaining order, in line with international norms and standards, in relation to the policing of public assemblies. All security forces, including the military when deployed in a law enforcement capacity, must comply with the basic principles on the use of force and firearms by law enforcement officials. We call for prompt, thorough, and transparent investigations into all alleged violations of international human rights law, including with respect to use of force. It is also important that the media is permitted to report on events freely and independently. ➡️

We have received several deeply worrying allegations of unnecessary or disproportionate use of force by security forces during protests organized by youth groups demonstrating against corruption and the recent Government ban on social media platforms. We call on the authorities to respect and ensure the rights of peaceful assembly and freedom of expression. All security forces must comply with the basic principles on the use of force and firearms by law enforcement officials. Nepal enjoys a lively democracy and active civic space, and dialogue is the best means to address young people’s concerns. The recent intensified attacks on residential areas by Israeli military in #Gaza has killed & injured dozens of Palestinian children, women & men. Meanwhile, the population remains trapped in an ever-shrinking area, with the “yellow line” constantly being moved westwards by the Israeli military, which appears to routinely fire on Palestinians for mere presence in the vicinity of the line.
