#Indonesia: We are following closely the spate of violence in the context of nationwide protests over parliamentary allowances, austerity measures, and alleged use of unnecessary or disproportionate force by security forces. We stress the importance of dialogue to address the public’s concerns. The authorities must uphold the rights to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression while maintaining order, in line with international norms and standards, in relation to the policing of public assemblies. All security forces, including the military when deployed in a law enforcement capacity, must comply with the basic principles on the use of force and firearms by law enforcement officials. We call for prompt, thorough, and transparent investigations into all alleged violations of international human rights law, including with respect to use of force. It is also important that the media is permitted to report on events freely and independently. ➡️

#Nepal: We are shocked by the killings and injury of protesters today and urge a prompt and transparent investigation. We have received several deeply worrying allegations of unnecessary or disproportionate use of force by security forces during protests organized by youth groups demonstrating against corruption and the recent Government ban on social media platforms. We call on the authorities to respect and ensure the rights of peaceful assembly and freedom of expression. All security forces must comply with the basic principles on the use of force and firearms by law enforcement officials. Nepal enjoys a lively democracy and active civic space, and dialogue is the best means to address young people’s concerns. We urge reconsideration of measures to regulate social media to ensure they comply with Nepal’s human rights obligations. ➡️

#Israel’s suspension of multiple aid agencies from #Gaza is outrageous. The pattern of unlawful restrictions on humanitarian access & these arbitrary suspensions make an already intolerable situation worse for the people of Gaza. States must take urgent steps & insist that Israel allows aid to get into Gaza unhindered. ➡️

#Iran: Volker Türk says as if pain & suffering of war are not enough, Iranians are being arbitrarily rounded up, jailed, subjected to unfair trials & even executed by own Govt. This is outrageous. #Sudan: The UN Human Rights Office is receiving multiple, alarming reports that the Rapid Support Forces are carrying out atrocities, including summary executions, after seizing control of large parts of the besieged city of El Fasher, North Darfur & of Bara city in North Kordofan state in recent days. We need urgent, concrete action to protect civilians seeking safe passage from El Fasher and Bara in Sudan. States with influence must act to prevent atrocities by RSF and allied fighters; accountability is key.

The #USA has justified its intervention in #Venezuela citing the Venezuelan government's record of human rights violations, but accountability for human rights violations cannot be achieved through unilateral military intervention that violates international law. We fear that the current instability & increased militarisation due to the US intervention will further worsen the situation in Venezuela. The future of Venezuela must be determined solely by the Venezuelan people, with full respect for their human rights, incl. the right to self-determination & sovereignty over their lives and resources. ➡️

We are appalled at the brazen killing by #Israel's border police of two Palestinians in Jenin, occupied #WestBank, in an apparent summary execution. UN Human Rights has verified that 1,030 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces and settlers in the occupied West Bank since 7 October 2023. Impunity for Israel security forces’ unlawful use of force, and ever-growing Israeli settler violence, must end. ➡️
