The Co-op loves to sell itself as an ethical retailer….. but ethical values mean nothing if they’re abandoned the moment they’re inconvenient. Closing the Shieldhall coffin factory and ripping more than 80 skilled manufacturing jobs out of Glasgow isn’t solidarity. It isn’t supporting communities. And it certainly isn’t ethical. Every job lost is decades of skill, craftsmanship and pride being taken away from Glasgow. Communities don’t need warm words and glossy marketing - they need employers who stand by them.
