There were times when we worked overnight. We'd meet at 9 PM and stay until 6 AM, thinking over choreography and discussing ideas together. And when we got hungry, we'd eat together too. 👤: So then, SEVENTEEN members would work together because they're people who genuinely love dance? 🕺🏻: Yes, yes, we'd come up with ideas together, and when the choreography isn't coming out right nobody would go home [and just keep on working on it together]. What's so admirable and touching about this is that usually it's hard for artists to be like that. Usually the company makes it work through thorough management system. But these guys, woah I really can feel the energy that they really love dancing as much as I do. I think they're able to endure all that time and effort because they love dancing that much. Back then, trying to gather 13 dancers and work separately required a lot of effort, time, and money. But SEVENTEEN were the ones who did it for me. And there's something about it. When SEVENTEEN work on it directly, I can picture the stage, people's reactions, the company's confidence, and all sort of things come to mind when they're actually on stage. Because of that, the precision becomes incredibly high. There's a huge difference in the final result between creating choreographies with dancer stand ins and creating it with the original artist, and SEVENTEEN were the ones who carried that through. Among SEVENTEEN's choreography, which one is the hardest, or which one is the most intense? 🕺🏻: This might seem like an obvious answer, but anyone who knows SEVENTEEN's choreography already know this. There's no easy SEVENTEEN choreography. All of them are hard 👤: Why is it like that though? 🕺🏻: Because they're so talented and they understand and make music as well. For example, if you hear a 'tuk' sound, you have to throw a movement with a 'tuk' feeling, and if you hear a 'kung', you have to hit with a 'kung' feeling. The scale of these movements are different, you know? The scale of the movement? I always tell choreographers that they need to choreography that matches the scale and intensity of the beat That's what allows people to be immersed in it, and that's what makes good choreography. But usually, because [idols] have to sing live and things like that, there are many choreographies that get made smaller or lighter compared to the intensity of the song's beat. But SEVENTEEN isn't like that. They fully put in choreography that matches the full impact, the '땜삥' (feel) of the music exactly as it's heard. 👤: So they stayed true without compromising 🕺🏻: Because they're able to pull all of it off. That's why when you watch SEVENTEEN's choreography, it feels completely full. The formations are packed full too, and they throw in the right levels of power to match the beats, and the sense of speed? all those things are filled to the maximum (perfectly in place). That's why people find SEVENTEEN's choreography is fun to watch. But since they're able to pull it all off, I'm able to put all of it into the choreography. This is truly SEVENTEEN's capability. 👤: I totally get what you mean. Since they have to perform live, it usually comes with compromise, you scale down certain parts to match that. But with SEVENTEEN, they're able to do all without compromises. 🕺🏻: They'd say "Hyung, well do it all", "Just make us do it all". Funny thing is, [there's this story] on one of the album. They have been active for quite long, I thought they might get tired so I removed jumps and things like that from the choreography. 👤: Oh that sounds considerate to me? 🕺🏻: But when I took them out, they go "hmm", "hmm.. is this really okay?". At first they were like "Ah hyung, please take out some of the jumps", but when I actually removed them, they said "Ah hyung, it doesn't hit the same anymore", "It doesn't have the same stage vibe". So we ended up putting everything back in. That's when I realize how they truly feel the joy of performing on stage, the joy of being artist. And when that happens, what comes next? They gain confidence, right? And when fans look at artists brimming with confidence, how do the fans react? They go wild, right. And when the company sees the fans like that, what happens? Woah~ they will be thrilled. Q. SEVENTEEN has been active for so long, if they already have so many experience, shouldn't they be able to take things easier? 🕺🏻: It's because they don't want to. They themselves don't like it. That's why people say "There's a reason they've lasted this long". Even now, SEVENTEEN members like HOSHI and DINO keep contacting me like this, "Hyung, are you working on our choreography right now?", "Hyung, should I go to the practice room?", "Should I film the demo?". They're the artist, but they're saying they'll film the demo themselves. So I actually have to stop them like, "Hey, don't come. The dancers will feel uncomfortable, and I feel pressured with you watching too". They're still full of passion to the point I have to tell them not to come, they haven't changed at all. 260405 S.COUPS #에스쿱스 Ending Ment 🍒: Thinking that we won't have concerts as a group for a while makes me suddenly look back at the past 11 years. It got me wondering once again if I was a good leader to the members, and if I was a good member to Carats throughout this time. I feel like I have to say something a bit profound today, as the group's representative It seems like something is going to happen before CARAT LAND. As you all might be aware of, SEVENTEEN is about to face something important, and I thought it would be better/polite to share this with you first before CARAT LAND, so I'm bringing this up on behalf of the group. Jeonghan and Wonwoo are here, and I wish Hoshi and Woozi were here too as I'm telling this... After a lot of deep and sincere conversations among us members, all 13 of us have decided to renew our contracts. We will continue to sail the same boat and move forward working hard together.
