Video showing UPS Flight 2976 crashing shortly after takeoff this evening from Louisville after its left wing caught fire. The plane briefly became airborne before slamming into nearby warehouses, triggering a massive fireball that shot hundreds of feet into the air and ignited a blaze that has destroyed multiple buildings, with reports of people trapped. Smoke from the toxic fire is visible more than 10 miles away, prompting a shelter-in-place order within five miles of the airport. Rescue operations are underway, with three people on board the plane.

I’m not aware of an official UK dew point record, but the Euro model is forecasting dew points near 25°C (77°F) in England Wednesday evening. Ireland and Scotland could see similar dew points Thursday. This is summer humidity typical of Florida or the Persian Gulf. These unusually high dew points will make the nighttime heat even more brutal and potentially deadly for vulnerable populations and households without AC, which is most of the United Kingdom.

I have truly witnessed an unbelievable thunderstorm outbreak in Amsterdam tonight. We’re going on 4 hours straight of constant lightning and downpours. At peak ~30,000 strikes were detected in 30 min across Netherlands and northern Germany, ~17 lightning strikes a second.

Day 2 midday update at Donner Summit as major snowstorm roars on. Extreme blizzard conditions continue with I-80 fully closed. Cars are buried, my chasing buddy Michael helped pull a stuck driver from a snowbank, semis are stranded, visibility near zero, and at least 1 foot of snow has fallen since 6 am.
